“This interior was formed literally in one breath and in an atmosphere of complete mutual understanding,” says designer Nadya Zotova. - The owners of the apartment wanted a calm interior, a holiday home filled with light and air. Customers - fans of France and Morocco, immediately told us that they would like to see vintage and antique pieces of furniture and accessories in the future interior. As a result, we have a bright interior with a touch of France and Morocco, filled with things with history that we were looking for in the antique markets in France. "

Hall.

A family of three lives in the apartment: a husband with a wife and an adult daughter. The family is very active, creative and cheerful, they love to spend time together. The landlady draws, photographs, reads a lot, the head of the family travels all over the world, and the daughter is studying at the university and is fond of music.

Living room. Living room.

The main wishes of the customers concerned the layout. The main requirement is a common area with a kitchen, dining room, living room and even an office. The lightest part of the apartment is allocated for this zone. This is how a large area with a fireplace area, a dining room and an office was created, where the family can spend all their free time together. There is no TV in this apartment, because family members have enough communication with each other. But there is a special place in the bathroom for bathing your beloved dog.

The living room, with an area of about 50 meters, is the largest room in the house. The designers did not want to delimit it with anything, so they allocated the zones with the help of furniture and lighting. The office is located in a single space with the living room, kitchen and dining room.

The apartment is located in a new building in Chertanovo. On an area of 135 square meters, there are three rooms, two bathrooms and a laundry room. “There is a very successful layout in the form of an even rectangle,” says Nadya Zotova. "On the one hand, there is the common area, on the other, the bedrooms, and in the center there is a hall and bathrooms with a laundry room."

“The interior was created from scratch, but the customers really wanted to use some vintage and antique items, so we went with them to shopping in Paris,” the designer continues. - Everything that is in the apartment was bought in one week in Paris. There is something to tell about each item, because they were bought not in the store, but in flea markets and antique shops. One such item is a 19th century monastery dining table made of heavy barn boards with a massive base. A bench in the lobby was found on the way to the airport. They did the carpentry themselves. "

Fragment of the living room.

“They were looking for Venetian mirrors in snowy Paris, where transport stopped that day due to weather conditions, and no one wanted to take them,” Nadya recalls.

One of the most laborious moments was the decorative solution of the ceiling in the living room. “We didn’t want to use any spotlights or built-in lights, but at the same time we had to fill it somehow,” says Nadya Zotova. - As a result, we chose stucco for finishing the ceiling, tried many variants of the pattern, created samples, tried on. Customers doubted to the last, but in the end they trusted and were satisfied ”.

The whole apartment is very bright: in shades of white, gray, cream and pink. The richest room is the guest bathroom. The owner of the apartment is very fond of Morocco, so he asked to make the guest bathroom more saturated, masculine.

There is no overhead light in the bedroom, and in order not to leave the ceiling empty, the designers painted it in a deep blue.

Natural materials, pleasant to the touch, have been used in the decoration. Cement tiles and marble, wide oak flooring, all painted walls, all wooden furniture, curtains and upholstery - cotton and linen. At the same time, fabrics with bright geometric prints were chosen for pillows and bedspreads.

“The project turned out to be holistic, each room has a piece of furniture about which you can tell a story. We tried to make an interior that seemed to have already lived its life. And we succeeded, we are pleased with the result, - the designer admits. “A new carpentry, marble and a“ lace ”bed with a shabby Indian console, a teak bench and an old table have made friends here in an amazing way.” www.enjoyhome.ru

In life we often come across the concept of "vintage", and, as it turns out, many people misunderstand its meaning. So what does the word "vintage" really mean? This is what we have to figure out.

The meaning of the concept

Vintage comes from the history of French winemaking. Previously, this was the name of exquisite wine, which was very highly valued and insanely expensive. The term itself can be interpreted in different ways. Firstly, this was the name of the process of selecting grapes for elite wines. Secondly, the very elite wine.

In the future, the concept of "vintage" was assigned to any exquisite and expensive thing, sometimes rarity, that is, very, very rare.

The concept appeared in the middle of the 20th century, but it became widespread only by early XXI century. So, vintage is rare, exquisite, elite. This is the original understanding of the term. We'll get to know the other a little later.

The main characteristic of vintage

In addition to the elements that relate us to the fashion of the First World War and until the end of the 90s of the XX century, the vintage style is distinguished by special elegance, restraint, and laconicism. The main characteristic the age of the thing is at least 20 years. The most valuable are the copies made not by the streaming version, but in a single number, unique and inimitable. And better - handmade. So, another understanding of the term: vintage is unique, unique, unrepeatable.

In addition, the basis of the thing, its historical component, must be preserved unchanged. Vintage is not a fake, but a truly designer piece of art.

Fashion and vintage

In modern fashion, trends are gaining momentum that turn us to the past in history and art. The "vintage" style in fashion as a trend is associated with the use of stylistic elements, details, materials, even technology in the creation of modern clothing models, which were used in the creation of clothing models in past centuries for different segments of the population. Moreover, a clear time period is determined: from 1914 to the 1990s.

It is possible to conditionally divide the "vintage" fashion into several directions according to their characteristic features.

First, the style of the 1920s fashion: furs, hats with a veil, a closed collar at the blouse, a shiny fringed dress. Materials for this direction: silk, satin, velvet, soft, plastic, flowing, emphasizing the flexibility and seductiveness of forms. Type, prototype: Marlene Dietrich.

Secondly, the fashion of the 40s: jackets and dresses with shoulders and an accentuated waist, a flared dress with a mid-calf length, small hats (sometimes with veils). The lines are simple and geometric. The austerity and brevity of the image. Reminiscent of a military cut.

The prototype: military uniform.

Thirdly, it is fashionable in the 50s: bodices (often without straps), corsets, stiletto heels. The look is complemented by bright red lipstick. main idea- the idea of freedom, relaxedness, personality brightness.

Fourthly, the fashion of the 60s, creating diverse and bright images reminiscent of dandies: bright colors, stable heels, simple cut of dresses: flared and a-line, club blazers are used. Minimalist and laconic style.

Prototype: dudes.

Fifth, the style of the 70s: flared and loose-fitting trousers and jeans, shirts, stable shoes with high wedges, etc. Fashion, which is akin to the eclectic style. The fashion of freedom of expression and self-awareness, freedom of the individual from society.

The prototype: hippie.

Styles cannot be mixed: all things in the image, hair, makeup and accessories must belong to the same historical era. The internal component makes the image complete, when the person himself, who tried on the image, was imbued through with the aroma and sensation of the era, became in harmony with it. At the same time, a new, fresh stream brought into the image is welcomed.

Vintage and decoration

It is the sophisticated and sometimes even eccentric details and accessories that make the model and the look vintage. Particularly valuable jewelry is what your mothers and grandmothers wore.

But even if you want to prove yourself as a designer in the "vintage" style, then it is not difficult or at least inexpensive to do so.

For example, for the style of the 70s. you can independently make vintage jewelry: learn to weave a variety of bracelets, "baubles" from a yarn thread, pull your head over your forehead with a braided braid in the form of a "pigtail", a "flagellum", decorating the temples with tassels, or use a leather strap or a plastic cord. You can decorate your neck with the same cord or strap. And to it attach a stylized "razor-blade" in the form of a keychain.

You can go to the flea markets - there sometimes you can buy a completely unique vintage item for very little money. You can do it yourself according to the sketches that have been preserved, and photographs in old magazines from libraries. Various items and materials are sold in modern art stores to create vintage jewelry. They can be used in a variety of techniques: patina, craquelure, decoupage, helping to artificially "age" a vintage item.

Vintage art and design

A special role is given to vintage things in the design of bags and the everyday life around us.

Bags are an important component of our image, image. The most appropriate are such models as: reticule, travel bag, Chanel bag, briefcase, pear bag. To create them, a variety of different materials from the past: natural leather, textiles, velvet, silk and brocade, fur. As materials for decoration: beads, large plastic and glass beads, buttons, logos, sometimes simple or complex stitching, metal overlays, etc.

As for the vintage in the interior, here, on the contrary, it is supposed to use a combination of things from different eras, among which there must certainly be old things, perhaps not valuable then, but made of good materials and reflecting the era, as well as attracting the attention of their unusualness. Often, "reanimated" things can be used not for their intended purpose. So, in this case, the interior in the concept of "vintage" is an interior where elements and materials of several styles are successfully mixed.

The coloring of such an interior is usually restrained: muted, "dusty" colors, monochrome, lack of contrasts. The choice of materials depends on the idea: the most incredible combinations are possible. In general, the "image" of the environment should be a little "shaggy", but always cozy and soothing.

Vintage and art

In this case, vintage is works of decorative and applied art made in the style of the historical periods indicated above, or created at that time and miraculously preserved. A special place in arts and crafts is given to vintage dolls, which have recently become a common collectible. They are also used for interior decoration.

Various materials are used to make vintage dolls: wood, fabric, porcelain, metal, plastic, celluloid, etc. These dolls have a special "humanity", childish naivety and soulfulness. Other vintage toys are no less interesting.

Now there are quite a few exhibitions devoted to the history of toys and dolls, where you can see how they looked at different periods of the development of the toy industry in different countries... And by their authentic costumes to learn the peculiarities of the history of fashion.

Particular attention is drawn to antique clocks, table inks and calendars, fireplace figurines, painted dishes and samovars, as well as items in the style of folk crafts: weaving from birch bark and bark, wood and stone carving, embroidery and lace-making, etc.

How can you tell vintage from old? A vintage item is a rare, unique, unusual, with some kind of zest that attracts attention, and not just an old item created in the XX century.

It is easy to be stylish, bright, unique if you use a vintage style. Nowadays, when designers and couturiers offer unusual and even futuristic looks, you can appear elegant and luxurious in vintage clothes every day.

Things with a history always attract people with some kind of mysterious charm, which is why vintage so easily wins our hearts. But how to distinguish real vintage from old, because not all antiques are called vintage.

First, let's define the term. Word "Vintage" borrowed from the terminology of winemakers. Vintage in winemaking is a year in which any unusual climate conditions gave the wine a unique taste and aroma. Today "vintage" is a style of the past, and it's not just about clothes. Vintage jewelry, bijouterie, accessories, furniture and even appliances are in fashion. For a thing in to really be called vintage, it must correspond to the series requirements:

Firstly, the main difference between a truly vintage item is its exclusivity. It should be the best thing of its time. It's just that antiques are retro, but a vintage thing is always exclusive, be it a bag from Gucci, or a jacket from Chanel, to which a slight shabby will only add charm. The main thing is that this thing was at the peak of popularity at one time, and by it you can determine the era.

Secondly, the manufacturer is certainly important. A vintage item is always a brand, or, alternatively, a high-quality handicraft. That is, there must be a manufacturer's history behind the thing.

Thirdly, vintage items should not be confused with antiques. Fashion historians have set clear timelines, with vintage starting in the Victorian era and ending in the 80s. However, if you find the original '91 bomber jacket, don't rush to toss it aside. Currently, this is a fairly serious investment, because its price will only grow over the years.

The question of how to combine vintage with modern things is extremely important for lovers of antiquity. The main thing here is to recreate the general look of the era without straying from the given time frame, while it is important to remember about the little things, because it is they who set the style.

Vintage nuances

It is impossible for an amateur to distinguish real vintage clothes from artificially aged clothes, because a huge number of nuances remain beyond the horizon of knowledge. Skills come with time, with constant practice, and knowledge of the history of clothing is also a prerequisite. For example, when did the zipper appear, since when has it been used in everyday dress, what are its original colors, sizes, location. Subtle differences will allow you to correctly assess the year of sewing of the product. If the styles of clothing are transparent and intuitively we can determine the peak of the time of the popularity of products, then with its small details it is more difficult. In order not to be mistaken with the choice need to take into account:

  • Appearance of the label (color, size, where it is sewn);
  • Label font;
  • Size ruler (adjusted over time);
  • Stitching and overcasting seams;
  • Fabric structure.

Vintage jewelry isn't any easier. Famous and wealthy people have been the trendsetters at all times. They set the lifestyle of jewelry: be it watches, brooches, necklaces, earrings. The jewelry is copyrighted, permission is required to copy them, therefore it is unrealistic to meet several ladies with emerald earrings in the style of J. Kennedy. Vintage jewelry needs to be worn wisely, but it doesn't mean that it needs to be worn once a year. The task of vintage jewelry is to turn every day into a holiday.

Each time is characterized by original design developments, exclusive patterns, original cut precious stones... By purchasing a stylish thing from the past, you are in contact with the history of its creation, with the previous era.

Style history

What is vintage style and what does it mean? Inspiration from old and new - this is what this chic and unique style in the interior is all about.

The vintage style is young enough, it came to us from beautiful and unique France ten years ago and translated from French means "aged wine".

Interior in vintage style, photo

It all started when the American architect Patrick Willis presented to the general public in 2002 an original house consisting of five-walled rooms (or honeycombs), emphasizing the nobility of old furniture in a modern interior. This vintage style was quickly taken up by the French, providing it with worldwide recognition and popularity.

This trendy trend, used for interior decoration, is a harmonious unity of classic and modern style.

The main thing in vintage is antique lampshades and dishes, paintings and furniture, thanks to which a quiet and charming atmosphere of old times is created.

Modern designers, taking into account fashion trends, create chic furniture sets "for rarity" using a huge assortment of decor elements.

Vintage is characterized by the fact that old things take on new life creating an unforgettable picture of sophistication and luxury.

The most suitable option for a vintage-style interior is items that were released more than three decades ago.

Remember! When decorating a room in vintage style, use exclusive and original items, and not ordinary used items.

Several decades ago, there was still no division into retro, rarity and vintage. The things of the last century were perceived as decorative objects of the XX century. Vintage generally categorized vintage wine with a specific aging or harvest. Collection wines of exclusive grape varieties were especially appreciated.

The history of the word led to the fact that the maestro fashion industry began to call antiques with "aging" vintage. They have successfully revived stylized antiques, marked neo-vintage, combined vintage and presented their work at shows.

Initially, designers fell in love with the style, they drew inspiration, considering the works of the last century. I was especially delighted with the clothes with endurance. fashion trends past tense. The original cut, fabric containing exclusive decorative elements, were held in high esteem by the Hollywood bohemia.

Interior

But the influence of vintage can't get around the world, in which fans of this style of clothing live. So they even equip the interior in vintage style for themselves.

But this does not mean that to embody the style, you need to litter the house, albeit old, but junk. After all, things should be united by a common era, style, harmonious combination. Each subject should have its own history, in the words of art critics, provenance. It must be endowed with some kind of legend that gives it value.

Therefore, it would be very reasonable to create a collection with a specific theme, building a harmonious line of the image, and build on it. Moreover, the interior in vintage style is interesting in that its arrangement is never completely completed. Every antique shop, flea market and other most unexpected places can hide something simply created to fit the design of your stylish home. In addition, vintage is not some kind of conservative design style, but embodies what we ourselves want to see and feel.

Vintage interiors can be done in different styles- Provence, classic, boho, shabby chic and even modern. The main condition is the same as in clothes - things must be really old.

Vintage Provence style furniture

Interiors in vintage style breathe with coziness and tranquility, full of a lot of old things with history. The invariable attributes of the style are: furniture worn from time to time, slightly muted colors, antique utensils, rare dolls, cast-iron irons. Rooms in this style are distinguished by their general habitability and noble wear.

Since today it is not very easy to find truly antique items for a vintage style, manufacturers have taken up this fashion trend and began to release deliberately aged goods with scuffs on furniture and accessories, tableware and finishing materials of “burnt-out” color. After all, the main thing is not authenticity, but the effect, the mood of antiquity, in which a person will feel as organic and comfortable as possible. After all, for this, both the house and the clothes are stylized!

Characterizing the interior decoration in vintage style, it is important to say that natural materials are preferred here. Plastic, an abundance of glass, cold nickel-plated steel - all these elements typical for modern design projects in a vintage space can easily break the harmony of the composition.

When choosing finishing materials for a vintage style interior, it is important to decide on what you want to focus on: furniture, decor, textiles or walls. With bright furniture, a monochromatic finish looks better. Conversely, if you choose wallpaper with an expressive pattern, then it is better to show restraint in furniture and decor.

In the picture: Wallpaper with a large pattern in the interior of a children's bedroom

The vintage style bedroom interior is complemented by wallpaper with large patterns borrowed from Art Nouveau. The ornament of Roman curtains of a washed-out green shade "echoes" well with this pattern. Often in interiors in the vintage style, such wallpapers are very contrasts in terms of color. They love to combine them with a striped pattern.

In the picture: Wallpaper with a floral pattern in the interior of the bedroom

In the interior in the vintage style, wallpapers with a floral pattern are often found. This finish serves as a guarantor of a light spring mood. In the design of a vintage bedroom in the sketch above the tree branches with orange flowers and blue birds in the wallpaper pattern attract the main attention. With such a bright painting, the furnishings of the room should be as simplified as possible. Therefore, the room is furnished with a very laconic bed, an armchair with a "coach" tie and an elegant console made of dark wood.

Shown: Bedroom interior with wood paneling in finishing

The vintage style interior is characterized by a very classic finish. Therefore, in addition to wallpaper, wood panels are also often found here, which are usually used to decorate the lower half of the wall. A tall wardrobe, which can be either antique or artificially aged, is perfectly combined with light panels in the interior of a vintage bedroom.

The ceiling solution is also laconic. Wide white cornices, complemented by stucco moldings, help to visually increase the height of the room. In this interior, the designers of Olga Kondratova's Studio made the main emphasis on the decor of the bedside area with a royally elegant headboard, cascading silver lamps and a bright poster.

In the picture: Wood trim in the interior of the office

As we mentioned above, natural wood is one of the most common materials in vintage interiors. Therefore, wooden walls are very common here. This is especially true for the interiors of houses. In the design of the office in the sketch above, a work area is organized with a strict classic table and a seating area.

In the picture: Wallpaper with a small pattern in the interior

The combination of white wood paneling and light-colored wallpaper with a small pattern creates a neutral, yet very striking backdrop. Such decoration in the interior of the bedroom in vintage style emphasizes the classicism and refined luxury inherent in the composition. In this case, designers use lilac textiles in the form of bedspreads and pillows as accents.

Who said that the bathroom must be tiled? In 2016, bathrooms are often decorated as well as living spaces. If taking a bath is a real ritual for you, why not arrange an elegant boudoir instead of a bathroom? The vintage style with its attention to detail will help you to brilliantly cope with this task.

A vintage bathtub on legs, which you have probably seen in European films about the 40s and 60s, a vanity unit equipped with numerous drawers for storing small items, a mirror in a golden baguette - and now the interior of the boudoir is almost ready. For a greater resemblance to the interiors of the middle of the last century, the floor can be covered with tiles, in the layout of which black and white polyhedrons alternate.

The vintage style in the interior is most often characterized by pastel colors. The paints here seem to have faded over time, slightly muted. In this regard, vintage is very close to Provence. As a background, beige shades and tones of natural wood are usually used here. Bedrooms are often decorated in peach, pale pink, blurry turquoise or pistachio tones.

Vintage living rooms, thanks to the abundance of cute "doll" decor, as well as the active use of white and pink tones, often look like cakes decorated with bright oil flowers. However, in the vintage style in the interior of an apartment, you can often see richer shades of young wine, deep eggplant tones and even juicy green tones.

Shown: Dining room design with purple and green accents

Chesterfield style armchairs and classic upholstered chairs add nobility to the dining room interior with bookshelves. A subtle "touch" of vintage style is found in the beige, antique-styled chest of drawers. The wooden floor, without which it is difficult to imagine a real vintage interior, the walls in the shade of coffee with milk form a neutral coloristic basis.

In the picture: Bathroom design in wine shades

Did we tell you that vintage style and wine have a lot in common? And this similarity lies not only in the etymology of the word "vintage". The so-called "wine shades" in last years win not only fashion catwalks, but also interior showrooms. Beaujolais tones, young wine, pinot noir - all these concepts are familiar to both winemakers and interior designers.

Of course, not all wine shades are suitable for a vintage style interior. In order not to be mistaken for sure, it is best to focus on the tones of old or mature wine. The interior of the bathroom, shown in the sketch above, serves as an example of the successful inclusion of an active wine shade in a vintage composition.

Another color that easily "gets along" with aged furniture and decor covered with a noble patina. In the attic living room interior shown in the sketch, eggplant shades of upholstered furniture are used as coloristic accents that dilute the beige and brown range.

Vintage, as we said above, is considered a thing over 30 years old. The designers have set the upper "age" limit for vintage items at the level of 50-60 years. Thus, furniture and accessories that are more than half a century old are already considered antiques. Can antiques be used in a vintage style interior? Certainly.

Vintage-style interiors usually use interesting combinations and color schemes. The natural wood range is widely used here. At the same time, as a rule, it is quite saturated, since only expensive types of wood have always been used in the production of such furniture. And their shade is usually bright and warm.

Signs of vintage style in the interior

Given the romance and sentimentality of the vintage style, the audience of its fans is growing every year. Not all of us have antiques in stock, but true connoisseurs of this style do their best to acquire the necessary items and accessories for decorating their home "semi-antique".

Vintage has become fashionable and popular. It is in demand by many who want to create a vintage interior in their home without using conventional factory furniture sets.

Due to its respectability and consistency, the vintage style in the interior attracts the attention of people of different ages and tastes. Any premises can be decorated in this style, including residential buildings and offices of high-ranking personalities, restaurants and banquet halls.

Attention! In small rooms, it is advisable not to use the vintage style, since this design takes up too much living space.

The main idea of the vintage style is the use of outdated, outdated, recycled furniture that is repainted, varnished or supplemented with new details. Antique, expensive and museum furniture is not used in the above style.

  • natural materials in decoration;
  • original antique furniture (early twentieth century) or artificially aged;
  • interior items with a history and signs of wear and tear, but retained a decent look;
  • symmetry and pairing of decor items, accessories and other style details;
  • pastel shades, moderate and delicate; not necessarily only light, but restrained and discreet;
  • the predominance of floral motifs in decor, wallpaper, textiles, upholstery;
  • lack of luxury in the interior, simplicity and sincerity.

Walls in a vintage style interior are usually covered with wallpaper with a characteristic floral pattern or painted in soft colors. All walls must be in the same color. Their task is to helpfully set off furnishings and stylish accessories, but not dominate the interior. The color of the walls can be pure white, beige, grayish, blue.

The ceiling should be plain, painted or whitewashed. The presence of cracks and some irregularities in the finish is quite an authentic nuance of the vintage style. Stucco molding can be a wonderful decoration of the ceiling. But stretch and plasterboard suspended ceilings such an interior strictly does not accept.

Suitable for the floor are natural parquet or tiles, artificially aged or really old. Neither laminate nor vintage carpet are compatible.

General characteristics of the style

Vintage is difficult to distinguish into a design direction in which everything is always unambiguous and clear. This is not minimalism, in which there is no place for decor, and not technological hi-tech with its independent dynamism and subordination to equipment and comfort. Vintage is far from the traditional classics, in which everything is geometric and correct. You cannot put it in the frames of rustic styles, such as country, Provence, chalet.

You can find in it features of Art Nouveau and Baroque, a bit of Gothic and Empire style. Shabby chic, on the contrary, borrows vintage items from old styles, because the design itself was invented by one person, and not by the era and the development of culture. Of course, vintage does not have a philosophy under it, like modern or classic, but it allows you to connect the past and the present, and does this by using beautiful and sophisticated interior items.

The main feature of the vintage style can be called increased comfort. As a rule, antiques cause nostalgia, pleasant memories, and sometimes sadness in people. Therefore, in such an interior, not a single person will remain indifferent. Of course, if the space is cluttered with furniture, then you can forget about comfort, but with proper arrangement of the room it will always be pleasant to be here.

The focus of a composition is often one single thing. This can be a bed in a bedroom, a chest of drawers or an antique armchair in a living room, a dining table in a dining room or kitchen.

The new old style is reflected even in such an area as nail art. Vintage style manicure - pure luxury:

  1. Painting in decoupage technique, applying monograms, using baguette molding, “velvet sand” powder is relevant.
  2. Manicurists apply images in the form of brooches and cameos.
  3. Of the demanded drawings - openwork, floral prints, volumetric textures, frame images, angels, hearts.
