For any amateur gardener, it is important not only to grow vegetables, fruits and fruit trees on your plot, but also to give it a beautiful look that will delight not only the owners of the garden plot, but also all neighbors and guests who come to the country.

Garden decoration is a kind of art. On your site there is an opportunity to create unforgettable paintings from flowers, expressing your inner world with them. After all, it is not for nothing that they say: "The artist paints his paintings with paints, and the florist - with flowers."

In this regard, summer residents planning a flower garden on the site have questions: what varieties of flowers are better to buy in order to make your site more beautiful, where and when is it better to plant them, with what you can decorate your flower garden?

Design selection and planning

Consider step by step how to arrange flower beds with your own hands. First of all, it should be noted that the concepts of "flower garden" and "flower bed" are identical. The flowerbed has the correct shape and is necessarily fenced with a curb. But when creating a flower garden, you can not follow the rules and give scope to your imagination.

When breeding a flower garden, the following factors must be taken into account: the general appearance and area of the garden plot, the number of buildings and structures located on it, the varieties of fruit and vegetable crops planted in different places of the plot, as well as their financial capabilities.

There are directly opposite ways of locating a flower bed on the site:

  • match in style and design with the appearance of the garden plot
  • on the contrary, intentional and complete contrast with the garden plot

It should be noted that in the garden there can be many flower beds that differ in style and design.

Do-it-yourself preparations for creating a flower garden in the country should begin in the winter.

By the time the flower bed is designed, it is necessary to clearly imagine what kind of flowers will grow on it, and how it will look like in general.

Moreover, it is necessary to purchase flower soil and specialized fertilizers for planting.

Creating a flower bed with your own hands

Creating a flower bed with your own hands is like transplanting a plant into an ordinary flower pot and takes a lot of time. However, there is nothing complicated in this process.

To create a flower bed in your garden plot you need:

  • Prepare and clear a place for her;
  • Remove the top layer of soil;
  • Make sure to drain. Broken bricks and rubble are quite suitable for this;
  • Lay out a border along the edges of the flower bed;
  • Pour new soil;
  • Let it settle for at least 10-12 days;
  • Start planting flowers.

Selection of plants for flower arrangement

Flowers in a flower bed must look beautiful and please the eye. However, you do not need to plant all the flowers you have on it. If you do not have the opportunity to constantly travel to the country, you should select varieties of flowers that do not require special care.

To create a beautiful flower bed, you must be guided by the following tips:

  • plants need to be adapted to the same conditions. That is, flowers are planted in one area with the same requirements for care, weather conditions and the composition of the earth;
  • select plants that will bloom throughout the period;
  • be sure to consider the size of the plants;
  • connect plants according to a combination of colors.

Most often, eight to fifteen species of plants are planted in one flower bed. When creating a flower garden, it is imperative to use the principle of multi-tiered plants.

The tallest flowers are placed in the center, and undersized plants are planted along the edges, as if framing them and the entire flower arrangement. Of great importance is also the side from which the flower bed is open for viewing.

In addition to flowering, decorative leafy plants, usually perennials, may be present in the flower bed.

Note!

It should be noted that the process of creating such a composition is a little more complicated and requires a lot of imagination from the owner.

planting

Plants are planted in two ways:

  • seeds;
  • seedlings.

If you decide to plant seeds, you need to prepare everything in advance. In early spring, flower seeds are sown in high-moor peat.

Depending on the duration of flowering, plants are divided into three types:

  • annuals (should be planted annually);
  • biennial (bloom profusely in the second year);
  • perennial (bloom constantly, every year becoming more beautiful and more magnificent).

When planting seeds, you need to separate one group of flowers from another, leaving a place between them. This is done so that the grown plants do not interfere with each other.

Note!

If the flowers grow too thick, they need to break through or transplant part of it to a new place. Planting seedlings is much more convenient. In this case, you do not have to wait for the emergence of seedlings and the result will be visible much faster.

Flower beds require constant care. First of all, you need to regularly inspect the flower garden and remove wilted inflorescences. This encourages perennial flowers to re-bloom and keeps the plant looking beautiful.

Interesting design of a flower garden in the country

As a rule, organizing a beautiful flower garden does not require a lot of financial resources. To decorate a flower garden, you can use many household improvised means. This will give your flower garden a special individual style and make it look like a fairy tale.

To create a flower arrangement, you can use any material, as long as the imagination of an amateur grower is enough.

You can use single "pots" and furniture that has served its time, parts of wood, unnecessary materials for construction, almost all types of transport in which flowers can be planted.

Note!

Tires are very popular for creating flower beds. They can be put one on top of the other in the form of a fun slide. Think about the things you don't need at home. They can be very useful at their summer cottage when creating a flower garden.

The advantage of such flower beds is that they are mobile and, if necessary, are easily rearranged to another place. It should be noted that photos of flower beds designed in this way will be simply amazing.

Decor elements when creating a flower garden

To add originality and zest, you can use special garden figurines, children's toys and decorations. Very often among the flower beds you can see figures of different animals and birds: hares, deer, squirrels, hedgehogs, swans, titmouse, as well as heroes from fairy tales: gnomes, Snow White, the Frog Princess and others.

In many cases, small toy windmills, fountains or castles are used in such compositions.

And illuminated lanterns located around the perimeter give the whole picture an additional effect and elements of a fairy tale.

You can organize a flower garden in the courtyard of your house. Carefully thought out and made with soul, it will bring not only aesthetic pleasure, but also make the atmosphere around your home magical and unforgettable.

DIY photo of flower beds

It is difficult to imagine a suburban area without a bright flower garden. To enjoy the riot of colors throughout the warm period, it is not necessary to be an experienced landscape designer.

Principles of flower garden formation

Before proceeding with the improvement of the territory of the cottage, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the fundamental principles of designing flower beds.

The shape and location of the flower bed in the country affects the choice of plant height. A strict and narrow ridge is often filled with plants with the same height within 15-40 cm. For a round flower garden, a flower bed with tall plants in the center is suitable, then medium-sized specimens are planted, the outer circle is formed by undersized species. A mixborder near a fence or building wall is also equipped with plants of various heights, but according to a different principle: in the background, flower beds are tall flowers or a neat shrub with a gradual transition to medium-sized and then undersized species.

Beginners, in order to arrange a harmonious flower garden at the dacha with their own hands, should first draw up or select a suitable scheme indicating the landing zone of each type. This will facilitate the calculation of the need for planting material and the entire process of landscaping the flower garden.

Information about the flowering period

Flowerbeds of continuous flowering transform the cottage, making the site attractive all season. The key condition in drawing up schemes for such a flower bed is the regular presence of at least one flowering species. For the correct configuration of the scheme, you need to familiarize yourself with the timing of flowering plants:

Types of flower beds and choice of location

The place for a flower garden is determined based on its shape. A flower bed in the country can take on various shapes, the most common are the following types:

With proper drawing up of a flower garden scheme, even primitive plantings can look spectacular and attract admiring glances. When choosing a flower bed scheme, it is preferable for beginners to stop at flower beds of an irregular nature, such as a mixborder or an alpine slide. The accumulated experience will allow in the future to engage in the design of regular flower beds in the country, where a strict geometric pattern is achieved by selecting plants with the same flowering time and observing a certain interval between planting.

To attract butterflies, a mixborder of arborvitae, David's buddley, zinnia, goldenrod and purple echinacea will help.

The optimal place for a flower garden is a plot that is well visible from all sides of the cottage. Multi-level plantings are usually arranged near walls or a fence, an arabesque flower bed will become an original decoration of the lawn, it is better for beginners to practice on an alpine hill.

Comment! Forming a flower bed scheme for a specific area for summer cottages, shaded and well-lit places are marked on it. This will help to properly equip the flower garden, providing the plants with optimal conditions for development.

Flower bed preparation

To calculate the required number of seedlings, the flower garden scheme is divided into squares with a conditional side of 1 m. After that, the area occupied by each species is calculated. The resulting value is divided by the average landing rate per 1 m 2:

  • large plantings 1.0-1.2 m high - 2-3 pieces;
  • medium-sized flowers from 40 to 90 cm tall, 4-6 pieces are enough;
  • with a plant height of 20-40 cm, 7-9 specimens are planted in a flower garden per 1 m 2;
  • for dwarf flowers from 5 to 20 cm, the norm is 16-20 pcs.

To transfer the flowerbed scheme to the dacha site, the landing contours are marked with sawdust, sand or chalk. Before this, the earth is dug up to a depth of 0.4 m, all weed roots and the top layer of turf are removed. Specially prepared soil is poured on top for the flower garden.

An example of a successful decoration of the entrance to the cottage is presented in the following diagram, where roses, petunias, thuja, delphinium, lilies, asters and a cuff are used in the design of the flower bed:

Before planting in a flower garden for 2-3 hours, seedlings need preliminary watering. The optimal landing time in the country is the absence of bright sun, that is, in the early morning or at the end of the day. It is even better to choose the period before the rain. A round-shaped flower garden is filled from the center to the edges, a flower bed located near the fence of a summer house or building begins to be drawn up from the background according to the chosen scheme.

The roots of the seedlings are straightened, after deepening the soil near the neck of the plant is compacted. Upon completion of the work, the flower garden is watered abundantly, tall weak seedlings are propped up with a stick. If a flower has not taken root, it can be replaced at any time with a new specimen from the pot. You should not expect the perfect appearance of a perennial flower garden in the country in the first year of breakdown.

Advice! The unattractive voids of the flower beds are temporarily filled with annual flowers that are suitable for the conditions of detention with the whole scheme.

It looks interesting fragrant flower garden of hibiscus, kufei, penstemon, milkwort and petunia, the diagram of which is shown below:

Do not be afraid to make adjustments to the existing flower bed scheme. Replacing one species with another similar in content, changing the shape or area is only welcome.

In addition to the flowering period, when forming a flower garden scheme for a summer residence, the requirements of plants for soil acidity, lighting conditions, as well as their height are taken into account.

In the group of undersized plants there are unpretentious bulbous specimens: hyacinths, snowdrops, crocuses and muscari. For beginners, as perennials for a flowerbed scheme, you can advise a felt stalk, awl-shaped phlox and primrose. Decorate the cottage and bright biennials in the form of daisies, forget-me-nots and pansies. Annual representatives of the flora in the form of undersized marigolds, petunias, purslane are capable of organically complementing the flower garden scheme.

Flowers of medium height are the basic basis of the summer cottage flower garden, therefore it is preferable to choose specimens with a special decorative effect for the scheme. These conditions are met by such perennials:

  • daylilies;
  • peonies;
  • chamomile;
  • lilies;
  • irises;
  • bells;
  • phloxes;
  • hosts.

Annual species will help to fill the voids in the new flower bed in the country: marigolds, asters, lavatera and salvia. In the background or in the center of the flower bed in the scheme, a place is given to tall plants. For these purposes, aconite, decorative sunflower, clary sage, delphinium, lupine are suitable.

Shaded areas of the cottage will be decorated with flower beds with Japanese anemones, sedum sedum, hosts of all kinds of colors of flowers and leaves, ferns, common primrose and dark geranium. A dacha with acidic soil is a great place to decorate a flower garden with hydrangea, rhododendron, fern. The flower bed scheme may also include herbal carnation, heather, Canadian dogwood, broom or hearty bergenia.

Examples of harmonious flower beds

In conclusion, I would like to give a few more examples of flower beds for giving different levels of complexity.

The scheme of the simplest flower bed for teapots will decorate the cottage with a warm palette of pinks, oranges and reds, diluted with a purple tone. Heliotrope arborescens is planted in the background (1). Terry marigolds and Sander's tobacco form the middle tier (in the diagram they are marked with numbers 3 and 2, respectively). The parterre of the flower garden is occupied by a low-growing New Guinean balsam at number 4.

For an extensive mixborder flower garden you will need:

  1. Giant mallow Pleniflora.
  2. Ten-petalled sunflower.
  3. Icelandic poppy.
  4. St. John's wort
  5. Lobelia cardinalis.
  6. Fassen's catnip.
  7. Bell.
  8. Katananhe "Blue Cupid"
  9. Avens
  10. Sedum Matrona.
  11. Heuchera Miracle.

The scheme of a flower garden, resembling a piece of cake in shape, must be prepared:

  1. The corner of the flower bed is filled with a daylily in the amount of 3 bushes.
  2. Under the number 2 are silvery leaves of wormwood, 2 copies on each side.
  3. A dark red bark is planted in the center, 6 pieces are enough.
  4. The edges of the flower garden are decorated with 3 bushes of geyhera with burgundy leaves.
  5. On the front of the flower bed there are 5 specimens of silver leaves of the chistets.

The absence of a reservoir in the country can partially replace a flower bed, the scheme of which contains flowers of blue and blue hues. The bed of the stream imitates large pebbles, painted in blue. Glass beads will add transparency and dynamism. The flower garden is decorated with the following plantings:

  1. Bamboo leafy.
  2. Iris bearded.
  3. Lubelia.
  4. Creeping tenacious.
  5. Bell.
  6. Shaving hybrid.
  7. Bruner large-leaved.
  8. Awl-leaved bryozoan.
  9. Creeping tenacious.

The proposed schemes are not an unshakable postulate. Based on them, in the country you can create your own unique flower garden, pleasing to the eye throughout the warm season.

It is difficult to imagine a cottage without flowers - in any area there will always be at least a few flowering bushes. And for true flower lovers, the dacha attracts attention from afar with an abundance of colorful flower beds and flower beds, arches of roses and clematis. Everyone can make flower beds in the country with their own hands, and the most common materials will do for this.

Types of flower beds

Flower beds differ in shape, size, timing of flowering, compositional combinations. Most often in the country the following types of flower beds are used:

It should be noted that vertical, suspended and multi-level compositions require not only constant care, but also high costs. In addition, the process of creating such a flower garden is very laborious. The easiest way is to lay an irregular or mono-flower garden, and the competent arrangement and selection of plants will make it spectacular and attractive.

To create original flower beds, many craftsmen adapt any materials at hand. It can be old stumps, fallen tree trunks, car ramps, unnecessary plastic barrels, wooden boxes, and even real cars that have become unusable. Curbs made of natural stone, glass bottles, wicker vines look very nice.

In order for the composition to always look bright and fresh, and at the same time harmonize with the surrounding landscape, you need to carefully select not only the shape of the flower garden and materials for laying it, but also the plants themselves. Moisture-loving flowers should not be placed in small containers, especially hanging ones, where the soil dries out much faster. For vertical and arched structures, you need to select climbing vines with abundant flowering and a large number of leaves. In multi-level flower beds, tall, dense plants should not be planted in the foreground, otherwise they will cover everything else.

Bookmark a simple flower garden

In the process of work you will need:

  • shovel;
  • crushed stone;
  • curb stones;
  • cement mortar;
  • chernozem.

Step 1. Choosing a location

Choosing a place for a flower garden is the most crucial stage. A lot depends on what plants will be planted there: some flowers love open, well-lit areas, others prefer shade, others need a barrier from drafts and wind. Inappropriate conditions reduce the decorative effect of flowers and the flower bed loses its attractiveness.

Step 2. Markup

When the place is chosen, make the markup of the desired shape. It can be a circle, oval, square or rectangle, any other geometric figure. The perimeter of the flower garden is marked with twine stretched on pegs. If the soil on the site is soft, not overgrown with grass, you can simply outline the contours with a sharp rod.

Step 3: Preparing the Pit

Inside the perimeter, a layer of earth is selected with a shovel to a depth of 20-30 cm. For drainage, the bottom is laid out with crushed stone, broken brick or stone, well leveled and rammed. If the groundwater is too high on the site, before laying the drainage, the bottom is lined with a film or roofing material, the edges of which are brought out and temporarily reinforced with stones.

Step 4. Making the border

Now you need to arrange the walls of the flower garden: with the help of cement mortar, a border of stones is laid around the perimeter of the pit. If the site is completely overgrown with grass, a shallow trench 15 cm wide is dug around the pit and filled with fine gravel or gravel.

Step 5. Planting the plants

When the solution hardens, the flower garden is filled with fertile soil and left for 1-2 weeks. During this time, the soil will compact and settle a little, so you will have to add more black soil. Then it remains only to plant flowers and level the soil.

A border can be made not only from stones or bricks; the edging from bottles dug upside down, from short wooden rods, from neatly cut planks looks great. If a composition is created from several flower beds at once, the borders must be the same.

If there are old shrunken trees on the site, they will be an excellent material for small picturesque flower beds. You can use not only trunks, but also stumps, as well as round saw cuts of thick branches. So, the tree is cut down, leaving a stump with a height of 30 to 70 cm. With the help of improvised tools, a depression of such size is knocked out from above so that the flowers can take root well. On the one hand, a through hole is drilled through which excess moisture will drain.

The walls of the stump must remain thick enough, otherwise, under the influence of moisture, the tree will begin to collapse faster. Another important point: if the cause of the death of a tree was a disease, and not old age or exposure to external factors, it cannot be used for a flower garden. The disease can also pass to flowers, and all efforts will be in vain. In any case, the treatment of the stump with protective equipment will not be superfluous.

The finished stump is filled with fertile soil and left for ten days. When the soil settles, add more, lightly compact and level. After that, you can start planting plants. When choosing flowers, you should take into account the diameter and height of the stump: in small ones it is enough to plant a couple of bulbs of tulips or daffodils and plant some small perennial, but a whole flower arrangement will fit on stumps of a large diameter. In stumps with a height of 0.5 m, ampelous flowers or undersized vines look great.

Tree trunks are also easy to adapt to decorate a summer cottage. The length and diameter of the barrel do not really matter.

So, the process of making a flower garden from a log has the following order:

  • the tree is cut on both sides, the branches are sawn off;
  • if necessary, remove the bark;
  • stepping back from the edge 15-20, cm on the trunk make a transverse cut with a hacksaw;
  • from the other end perform the same actions;
  • the wood between the cuts is knocked out to make a container in the form of a trough;
  • the bottom is drilled in 2-3 places, the inner walls are treated with an antiseptic;
  • fill the inside of the log with soil and compact a little.

After a few days, the soil must be topped up, and after that flowers can be planted.

The flower garden created from saw cuts of an old acacia looks original. To do this, the tree trunk is sawn into several pieces 20 cm thick. The bark must be left, it gives the composition naturalness. The cuts are knocked out in the middle, leaving a thin bottom. If it was not possible to do this carefully, and the bottom turned out to be broken, you should stuff a piece of plywood or a wide board from below.

A flower garden is formed: on a flat, compacted area, three saw cuts are laid out so that they closely touch each other. Fill them with fertile soil and sprinkle with large wood chips or chips. Another saw cut is installed on top, placing it exactly in the center of the composition. The upper saw cut is also filled with soil and planting is started. Here it is important to choose the right flowers. So that they are combined with each other and do not cover the walls of the flower garden.

Flower garden from an overturned barrel

Such original flower beds are a good solution for hilly areas. Almost any elongated container is suitable for creating a composition. It can be a plastic and wooden barrel, an aluminum can, buckets of different sizes. Moreover, the container is suitable even with damage, because only one side remains visible.

Choose a suitable elevation and lightly dig its top. Lay the barrel or bucket on its side and drop it well so that the container does not move. Inside, the bottom is lined with a mulching film and soil is poured. The slope, located at the opening of the barrel, is carefully loosened, cleared of weeds and also sprinkled with flower soil. When the ground settles down, undersized flowers can be planted.

To create the effect of a spreading puddle, it is recommended to plant creeping and ampelous plants with white or blue flowers. For example, if you use an aluminum can and white daisies, it looks like milk is pouring out of a fallen can and turns into flowers.

Petunias look beautiful in such a flower garden, as well as multi-colored violets and small carnations. You can use an old unnecessary wheelbarrow: it is installed on one side of the hill, tilted slightly so that the lower edge rests on the top, and strengthened with improvised means. Then they fill the wheelbarrow with earth, and at the same time they prepare the soil on the mound. Plants are planted over the entire surface of the elevation and in the wheelbarrow itself, it is better to use bright and multi-colored flowers.

Video - Do-it-yourself flower beds in the country

The colorful interior of your summer cottage is one of the most important assets of every owner. The visual perception of what surrounds you affects not only the assessment of your wealth, but also your mood in general. Agree, because no one wants to spend their whole lives in gray tones. In order to decorate the territory, you need a flower bed with bright flowers, or a whole nursery.

At first glance, planting and caring for flowers seems like a rather complicated process, but even an inexperienced gardener can cope with the task.

  • First of all, it is aesthetically pleasing and beautiful.
  • It can mask sectors of the suburban area that are not desirable for viewing.
  • Pleasant floral scent (also prevents many diseases)
  • It will help in eliminating visible ground irregularities.
  • With proper organization, it can decorate not only the garden, but also paths, walls and much more.
  • With infertile soil, you can sow this area with special unpretentious flowers.

In order to competently approach this issue, we will need the time necessary to observe the summer cottage. During the year, you should study in detail the places with greater lightness and moisture. It must be remembered that moving the entire flower garden is a very difficult process and in order to do without it, you need to choose a place responsibly.

Among other things, you should know at what time the site chosen for planting is shaded, what is the composition of the soil and its acidity, and based on the observations obtained, decide where to place the flower bed.

There are many types that differ in shape and height and may depend on the material chosen and your imagination. The most common are:

  • A flower border is a narrow flower bed, usually located along a walking path, planting it is usually carried out in the form of compact bushes or low flowers (larger plants can be planted, it all depends on your preference).

    flower border

  • Rabatka - a rectangular flower bed, usually filled with flowers of the same height, but if desired, you can dilute it with several tones or mount a small pond inside the flower bed itself.

    Rabatka

  • Mixborder - a flower bed of arbitrary shape with various colors, ideal for small summer cottages, gives coziness and a warm atmosphere. The basic principle of such a flower bed is the constant flowering of plants growing on it (achieved by the correct selection of the timing of flowering and wilting of flowers).

    Flower bed mixborder

  • The flower bed is a mono-flower. The option is suitable for beginner gardeners and is a planting of one species. No frills, with proper care, such a flower garden looks amazing.

    Flowerbed-monoflower

  • Vertical flower bed - not suitable for beginners, but with perseverance, you can achieve stunning results. Flowers should be the same size and have the same flowering period. Netting and decorative stone are used as materials for the flower bed, and the flowers for such a planting are usually quite exotic (alpine forget-me-not, primrose and viola).

    vertical flower bed

  • Alpine hill - a type of flower bed with a stone in the middle (for greater originality, smaller stones can be laid out nearby), and flowers are planted around.

    Alpine slide

  • Water (floating) flowerbed - is a small pond with aquatic plants, along the perimeter of which ordinary flowers can be planted (the outline of the reservoir can also be highlighted with a decorative stone).

    floating flower bed

  • Parterre - a feature of the flower bed is that the pattern is formed immediately when the flowers are planted.

    Flowerbed-parterre

  • Flower clock - a flower bed, the flowers of which close and open at a certain period of time, is quite complicated in arrangement, requires certain knowledge and experience.

  • An arabesque is a flower garden that is similar in general texture to some animal or bird (possibly an insect).

    Arabesque

  • A multi-level flower bed - it is difficult to install, but it has a huge number of advantages, a distinctive feature - it is clearly visible from any angle.

    Multi-level flower bed

The most primitive plantings, with the right choice of design, will look like something very spectacular and eye-catching.

  • For beginners, it is imperative to learn all about the conditions for planting selected flowers, caring for them, their flowering time, watering requirements, and not chasing a large number of plants, two or three types of flowers are enough for a colorful and aesthetic flower bed.
  • Make a preliminary plan for the organization of the flower bed, taking into account the location, size, planting scheme and color combination.
  • If this is the first flower garden you make yourself, use unpretentious flowers that do not require excessive care for planting.
  • Try to use group plantings (that is, plant flowers of the same type more closely), this will allow you to highlight each group of flowers and avoid loss of decorativeness due to chaotic mixing of plantings.
  • As mentioned above, consider the flowering time of each flower, try to combine plants of different ripening periods (autumn, summer, spring) in one flower bed. By doing this, you will increase the period of enjoying the aesthetic appearance of the flower bed.
  • It is important to take into account the requirements for the soil and the level of illumination - for the flowers of one flower bed they should be approximately the same.
  • Depending on the height of the flowers, place them at different levels (higher ones at the back, lower ones at the front). This arrangement is very in harmony with almost any site design and looks quite impressive.
  • When planting a flower bed, carefully consider the issue of color combination. Do not try to choose only bright colors, colorful and white tones in various combinations look aesthetically pleasing.

landscape design

For the first time taking up such a delicate matter as creating a flower bed, remember that they are all divided into two types:

The layout has a few simple rules to create a clear view and an elegant look: for beds that are visible from all sides, large flowers plant in the center, and for beds along the paths, at the edge. If desired and imagination, the scheme is drawn up independently, having previously drawn everything on paper.

Standard formats include:

  1. Pink and white gamma. Combining colors and placing them in a certain order makes it possible to get a good decor with a low level of professionalism. Use pink and white bloom lavater for the backdrop. Plant low white flowers or pink zinnias in front of the flower beds, and plant Drummond's phlox on the sides and in the background.
  2. Annual flowers with a red-orange gamut. The background of the flower bed is usually planted with amaranth interspersed with sunflowers. Complement the overall design of the flower bed with dahlias, and fill the free space with esholzia. Red and yellow asters and marigolds for edging the flower bed will not be superfluous in a small amount.

Today, there are a huge number of combinations and variations of plantings, how you can decorate a flower bed with your own hands, but in the absence of sufficient experience, it is better to use ready-made options in order to avoid unnecessary problems with the selection of combinations of sizes and colors of plants.

Flowering times for plants

  • March is a month with a favorable climate for snowdrops, and closer to April, pansies bloom.
  • April is a colder month, but warm enough for daisies, tulips and liverworts to bloom.
  • May is the time of the year that can delight you with the flowering of daffodils, phloxes and wonderful lilies of the valley.
  • June - the beginning of summer is characterized by the flowering of carnations, lilies, as well as the first bouquets of roses and petunias.
  • July - the hottest month brings the color of dahlias, cosmea and charming matthiola.
  • August - continues to delight with the flowering of astilba and the period of gladioli and sunflowers begins.
  • September - autumn time is ideal for chrysanthemums, as well as daisies and some types of roses, which indulge in their beauty until winter.

Annual flowers and organization of continuous flowering

Absolutely all flowers on your site can have a different lifespan. As you know, there are annuals, biennials and flowers that live for longer periods of time - perennials. Usually, annual flowers begin to bloom after 14-15 weeks (asters, petunias, lobelia).

The right combination of annuals and perennials will give you an almost permanent decor and a long flowering time. Perennial flowers are of course more practical and do not require annual planting, but for a complete variety, a complex planting is necessary (that is, together with annuals).

Try to choose the design so that iris and lupine are present in the flower bed. For a later bloom, gladioli are suitable. To select plants and arrange continuous flowering, use the flowering timing information above.

For any flower bed, regardless of its size and types of flowers, preparation work is required inside it for its immediate organization. You can perform these works in the house or in favorable weather (in spring). The soil of the flower bed needs to be dug up and fertilized (with compost, for example).

In addition to planting flowers, keep an eye on the absence of weeds, if they appear, take care of their immediate elimination. If you want to make a flower bed on a site that is littered with grass and weeds, before you start arranging a flower garden, uproot them and take them outside the site. To protect against weeds, you can use plastic or border tape.

Spring preparation of the flower bed

When making a flower bed, it is quite logical that it will have to be sown with flowers. It is necessary to start sowing seeds in March (in order to get seedlings by the end of April). In early May, you should start planting flowers in a flower bed. Using ready-made seedlings is also a good option, they quickly take root and begin to grow actively from the first days after planting.

For beginners, it is worth noting - in March, peas or tobacco, asters or dahlias should be planted in special boxes with earth, and then carefully transplanted into a flower bed. If you chose flowers growing from bulbs, make sure they are intact after wintering. If defects in the form of spots are detected, eliminate them with a regular knife, and cover the incision with peroxide or brilliant green.

Fencing and landscaping

Each owner wants to make his site the brightest and most impressive. It is quite logical that flowers planted randomly on the ground will not give the expected result. To decorate the flower beds, improvised materials, tiles, stones are used, which can be painted for even more originality, and even plastic bottles can act as a kind of fence. A fence made of plastic bottles is very easy to make - choose bottles of the same size, fill it with pebbles or sand and dig it to the same depth, giving the flower bed the desired shape.

It is possible to ennoble a flower bed by mounting a low fence made of wooden planks or chain-link mesh. If you know how to weave, a fence made of willow twigs is an excellent option - just dig in a thick wire or sticks, around which willow branches will be braided along the perimeter of the flower bed. Skillful summer residents have reached unprecedented heights in matters of organizing flower beds, people's advice and certain subtleties of the process can be found below, in the section of practical advice.

The construction of a flower bed does not have to be carried out with the help of specialists and construction organizations. With the help of improvised materials (tires, bricks, stumps, stones and even old furniture) and your imagination, you can make an original and aesthetic flower bed.

The most affordable and easiest option is a flower bed from a car tire (from a tire). Having decorated it, and, if desired, giving it the necessary shape, simply fill it with earth and plant the pre-selected flowers. For a more complex design, you can turn the tire inside out and use pruning shears to shape the vase.

Having skills in brickwork, arrange a flower bed of the desired shape from brick or wild stone. Use any materials at hand, connecting your imagination, and you will get an exclusive flower bed that has no analogues in the world.

In addition to the above planting parameters, it is necessary to remember the shade tolerance of flowers and their whimsicality to the acidity of the soil.

In order to save yourself from unnecessary burdens of care, it is possible to use snowdrops, muscars and other bulbous plants. Bright colors can be given by annual flowers - purslane and aggeratum, petunia and others.

The basis of the flower garden is usually represented by medium-sized flowers due to the fact that they have a special decorative effect. Species such as: phlox, peonies and lilies are suitable for closing the free space between perennial flowers that have not yet blossomed. Other options are possible: asters, marigolds. Tall flowers are suitable for decorating paths, namely: aconite, heliopsis and sage. If there are shaded beds in the summer cottage where ordinary flowers do not grow, you should not be upset, such types of plantings as: geranium, heather, rhododendron and carnation can be a solution.
