Psalm 90 in Russian with accents. Private computer technician. He will call to Me and I will hear him

Such a prayer is Psalm 90. In former times, every Russian person knew this psalm by heart and read it when any danger or threat arose. And today many know this protective prayer by heart, and even more carry its text with them - in their pocket or purse and, if necessary, read it or have a consecrated belt with the words of the psalm, etc. She saved and saves many today. Otherwise she would not have been so revered by the people. Nowadays, when human life is becoming more and more difficult and dangerous, we need the prayer “Alive in Help” even more. Unfortunately, some people know and have the psalm translated from Church Slavonic into modern Russian. There are different translations that significantly distort and impoverish the meaning of the text. We present here the text of the prayer in Church Slavonic, in which it is recommended to read it.

Psalm 90

1. Living in the help of the Most High, he will settle in the shelter of the Heavenly God.
2. The Lord says: Thou art my Protector and my Refuge, my God, and I trust in Him.
3. Yako Toy will deliver you from the snare of the trap, and from rebellious words.
4. His cloak will cover you and you will hope under His wing: His truth will surround you with weapons.
5. Do not be afraid from the fear of the night, from the arrow flying in the days.
6. From things that pass in darkness, from clots and the midday demon.
7. A thousand shall fall from thy country, and darkness at thy right hand; he won't come close to you.
8. Look before your eyes and see the reward of sinners.
9. For You, O Lord, are my hope. You have made the Most High your refuge.
10. Evil will not come to you. And the wound will not come close to your body.
11. As His Angel commanded you, keep you in all your ways.
12. They will take you in their arms, but not when you dash your foot against a stone.
13. Tread on the asp and the basilisk, and cross the lion and the serpent.
14. Because I have trusted and will deliver, and will cover, because I have known My name.
15. He will call to Me, and I will hear him: I am with him in sorrow, I will destroy him, and I will glorify him.
16. I will fill him with long days, and show him My salvation.

This prayer helps people to a greater or lesser extent, which depends on the spiritual and moral state of the person calling on God for protection and salvation, on the nature of the danger, understanding and perception of the meaning of the prayer. The text of the prayer indicates these conditions, but they are not understood by everyone without interpretation. For a deeper and broader understanding of the meaning of Psalm 90, we will give its interpretation according to the books of Euthymius Zigaben “Explanatory Psalter” and A. Lopukhin “Explanatory Bible”.

The main idea and essence of Psalm 90: hope in God has irresistible power. St. Theodoret says: this psalm teaches that the power of trust in God is irresistible; for blessed David wrote this psalm as an instruction to people about how many benefits trust in God brings. Anyone who lives by faith and hope in God will find in him a protector who saves him from all the misfortunes and evils of life. This psalm prophetically points to the coming of Christ, Who is the closest protector to man. Let us explain each verse of the psalm.

1. Whoever has the help given by God will be preserved under the protection of God. By God's help we must understand, in the words of St. Afanasia. the law of divine commandments, given by the Lord to people to help them against demons and other misfortunes.

2. Having great strong faith, a person says to the Lord: “My refuge and my defense; My God, only in You do I trust and hope.”

3. God will deliver “from the snare of povcha” - a sudden physical attack on the body or a demonic attack in the form of the unexpected appearance of lust or other sinful passion. It will also deliver “from rebellious speech” - slander that produces rebellion in the soul of the slandered.

4. He will overshadow you with His feathers, and under His wings you will be safe; shield and fence - His truth. That is, the Lord will protect you with the same protective love with which a mother hen takes her children under her wings, where they feel completely safe. This is because “His truth” will be a weapon of protection for you. Since God loves the truth, He will protect the one who is true before Him.

5, 6. You, a person living in the help of God, will not be afraid of the fear that happens at night from demons, or from people (thieves, robbers, house arsonists); You will not be afraid of arrows and shots that strike the body; You will not be afraid of the mental arrows with which demons and passions strike. “Things that pass away in darkness” - fornication, adultery, the demon of passion and the like; and the “midday demon” is a demon of laziness and carelessness, corrupting people in their midday rest with the temptations of vile and carnal thoughts.

7. Thousands of arrows will fall on your left and ten thousand arrows on your right, but they will not harm you. The thousand on the left is a direct temptation to sin; ten thousand on the right is an attack by demons to counteract our righteous, godly deeds. This verse has numerous confirmations in biblical history (a striking example is the victory of King Ezekiah in the war with the attacking Assyrians, who had much superior forces), as well as at the present time.

8. With God's help, you will see with your own eyes the retribution of the wicked who are at enmity against you.

9. Therefore there will be such strong protection from God that you have relied on God with all your heart and mind and chosen Him as your refuge.

10. Since you have made God your refuge, “evil will not come to you,” that is, no temptation (trouble) will strike you. “And no wound shall come near your body” - everything bodily will be protected, your house from fire and robbery, and your body from illness.

11. For the Lord will command His angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. God, through Angels, protects those who trust in Him.

12. They will carry you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. The hands of Angels - the essence of the protective force - will support you during temptations and difficult circumstances, so that your foot does not stumble on a stone. By stone we mean every sin and every obstacle to virtue.

13. Asp and basilisk - genera of poisonous snakes (basilisk is a spectacled snake). A person who has God as a guide in everything is not afraid of poisonous snakes and large predatory animals, they do not harm him, which is confirmed by numerous lives of saints. In this verse, by snakes and beasts, the holy fathers also mean victory in general over evil. By asp one can mean slander; basilisk is envy both on the part of someone and one’s own personal envy towards someone; the lion is cruelty and inhumanity. The righteous overcomes such passions and does not receive any harm from them.

14. Since a person trusts in God, therefore He delivers him from all danger. The name of God is known not by the one who knows in general who God is, but by the one who behaves in relation to God in a manner worthy of God, demonstrating this dignity in diligently fulfilling the commandments and will of God.

15. He who trusts in God will call to him in danger, and He will hear, and come to the rescue, and free him, as he helped many martyrs in suffering. And he will not only liberate, but also glorify him in earthly and eternal life. Of course, someone who trusts in God will not ask for anything unworthy, contrary to God’s truth.

16. This verse means that the Lord rewards those who trust in God and strive to live according to His will with eternal life, and can also extend earthly life beyond the natural time of death, which is also a lot of evidence.

Thus, when reciting the prayer “Alive in Help,” God hears everyone and responds as a loving father to help his son or daughter. The help and protection of the Lord is a reward, which is usually greater the more a person has earned it before Him. But God does not act strictly according to the principle: “as much as you are to me, as much as I am to you.” Therefore, the Lord often helps a sinful person who, at the time of conversion, has only great faith and hope in God’s help. Helps in the hope of strengthening faith and love in the future.

But people who try to live according to God’s commandments also have no guarantee of God’s protection when faced with danger. For admonition, the Lord may allow dark forces to attack them for sins that they could well have avoided. Such admonition becomes clear to a person, and he straightens his crooked path. And also to allow an attack on those righteous for whom troubles and sorrows are tests for the strengthening and growth of the spirit. These tests are given according to a person’s strength and for his benefit. In each specific case, God's providence is unknown in advance, and it is not given to people to know it. The ways of the Lord are truly mysterious, but loving to mankind.

Sermon

What is Orthodoxy? To put it simply, Orthodoxy is true Christianity, not distorted by human speculation and passions. But before we turn directly to Orthodoxy, let’s see what every thinking and seeking person faces.

The Psalter or Psalter is a legacy of the Old Testament, a unique collection consisting of hymns or songs, under the general name “psalms”.

These songs are poems composed by poets of different times. They sing well. The Orthodox Psalter includes 151 psalms. The ninetieth psalm is considered one of the strongest, in terms of impact on the believer.

Psalm 90 is a powerful prayer designed to protect people living in strong faith from the following misfortunes:

  • any kind of evil;
  • blows of fate;
  • death threat;
  • envy, slander and slander;
  • dirty conspiracies;
  • horrors and fears;
  • any danger;
  • illnesses and terrible diseases;
  • enemies and dangerous enemies;
  • temptations and temptations;
  • small and great sin;
  • various troubles.

The effect of this psalm can be strengthened by the following combination of prayers: first, you must read the prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos, then, in order, psalms 26, 50 and 90.

This order is called "preservation prayers." They are used, for example, in armed conflicts, military operations or in difficult life situations. That is, prayer also helps to repel enemies.

Many, in our difficult times, are in constant fear and anxiety for their future, in a state of irritation and dissatisfaction with themselves, lack of confidence in their abilities, which clearly interferes with enjoying the flow of life.

In everyday life, when many concerns are related to making money and the desire to do it faster and easier, temptations appear that counterbalance spirituality.

But the longer a person practices reading the psalm, the more confident and calm he and his surroundings become; fears and temptations are replaced by unconditional trust and happiness.

In the Orthodox Church, this hymn is read at services during the day or evening, and also at memorial services and funeral services. It flows very harmoniously into the spiritual life of the church.

Psalm that helps

There are many stories that tell of the support and protection that was received from the sacred text. Women - mothers, in difficult times, wrote the words of the psalm by hand, folded it several times and sewed it into a canvas bag.

The result was a talisman that had the power of the text itself and a mother’s request for the protection of her son or daughter. This amulet was placed in a clothing pocket. He saved me from trouble more than once.

There is a known case when a man’s jacket was stolen, in the pocket of which there was such a talisman. The thief was unable to escape, as an unknown force led the owner of the jacket in the footsteps of the thief. In the end, they met face to face and the jacket was returned to its owner.

The miraculous amulet more than once saved the lives of soldiers participating in hostilities. Many people put the text of the anthem in their car to protect against unforeseen circumstances.

The printed text of the psalm, of course, can be bought today and, nevertheless, a text written from the heart and with unshakable trust can be of great benefit, because the feelings and aspirations of the believer are embedded in it.

The words of the hymn are placed in amulet and this amulet is hung around the neck, printed on belts or ribbons. The Orthodox Church does not approve of such use, nor does it prohibit it.

We must clearly understand that it is not the amulets themselves that save a person, but God, to whom our prayers are addressed.

Some historical facts

There are significant differences in the description of the origin of this psalm. Those who adhere to Judaism claim that Moses wrote these lines, and Christians attribute the authorship of the psalm to David.

Some people who interpreted the content of Psalm 90 compare this text with the victory of the Judah king Hezekiah over the Assyrian army, in which the king relied entirely on the help of the All-Merciful and received it.

Initially, this document was known in Hebrew, then, thanks to translation from Hebrew, the following appeared: Greek version (Septuagint), Latin version (Vulgate), Russian version (Synodal), Church Slavonic, English (King James Bible).

How is Psalm 90 interpreted?

The text of the prayer is divided into lines - verses. Exegetes - interpreters, explain the sacred document as follows.

First, a teacher appears before the reader, who pronounces instructions on gaining hope and trust, granting the protection and guidance of God. He convincingly shows what evils and enemies you can protect yourself from by relying on the help of the Almighty and giving Him all of yourself.

God Almighty, through the hands of Angels, invisibly and secretly provides protection, participation, support and protection.

In the second part of the text, the Almighty praises the righteous human creature, who lives piously and virtuously, therefore, he is protected from life’s adversities and is given a long life.

She, this protection, is granted to all who believe and entrust their lives to the Lord. A righteous person who lives in harmony with the world will not attract evil and violence to himself.

Most often, people come to God when they feel inner fatigue and disappointment, when an unbearable burden of problems has accumulated and it seems that the whole world is against them. This psalm is charged with powerful energy that can restore joy and fill life with light and love.

The psalm protects from real danger, promotes internal development, the search for the purpose of existence, and the awareness of obstacles that occur in everyday reality.

Our road on Earth is a constant uphill climb; the further we go, the more it opens up to the eye. Reading the psalms is spiritual food that helps our ascent.

The prayer “Alive in the help of the Most High” is also called Psalm 90. This prayer appeal is considered the most powerful. The prayer is very revered among the people, because its text is filled with enormous positive energy. The main feature of prayer is its universality. It is designed to reliably protect believers from any adversity. In ancient times, every Orthodox believer knew this psalm and read it when he felt any danger or threat.

In Ancient Rus' it was customary to sew the written Psalm 90 into the belt. This attribute was a mandatory accessory of the Slavic people, so the talisman was always near the body. Today the church does not approve of the creation of such attributes, equating them with magic. But, nevertheless, many believers decorate their own clothes with quotes from the prayer, performing beautiful embroidery.

The history of the prayer “Alive in the Help of the Most High”

This prayer is very ancient. It was written a thousand years before the birth of Christ by King David. The life story of this man is very interesting. King David was the seventh child in the family of the poor shepherd Jesse. David began composing his first psalms in his youth, when he was tending sheep. After Saul, the first King of Judah, apostatized from God, the prophet Samuel, at God's direction, made David God's anointed. But the path to the Reign was very long and difficult. During his life he accomplished many feats, the most famous of which was the victory over Goliath. He also had to endure persecution from King Saul.

But years passed and the time of reign came. It was King David who made Jerusalem the capital of the united Jewish state. He is considered the founder of the Psalter, although not all the psalms included in it were written by him.

One of his most famous psalms is Psalm 90, which is widely known under another name: “Living in the Help of the Most High.” It was written by King David on the occasion of the country's deliverance from a terrible three-day pestilence.

Why do they read and what does prayer protect against?

A special feature of prayer is its powerful protective energy. It has been proven that this prayer appeal allows you to protect yourself from all kinds of misfortunes. This prayer has been used since ancient times for any troubles, illnesses and even death. But this prayer is considered most effective in the fight against witchcraft. During the Great Patriotic War, this prayer, which mothers said, saved their sons at the fronts.

Prayer is so powerful that it can be used as a talisman. To do this, you just need to write it on a piece of paper and always carry it with you. There are recorded cases where this psalm healed people from serious illnesses. The blind received their sight, the deaf gained hearing.

This prayer must be read before starting any business. After this, all obstacles to the goal will disappear, and the person will be successful. In addition, if you carry the text of the psalm in your breast pocket, you will be able to easily resolve any controversial issues.

How often to read a prayer to protect yourself from evil

Believers need to read this prayer as often as possible, but the church does not give specific recommendations on this matter. But if you need to heal a bedridden patient, then this psalm must be read over him at least three times. In ancient times, traditional healers often used this method, and they successfully managed to save people from serious illnesses.

This prayer helps against nightmares. In this case, the psalm should be read three times immediately before going to bed. You can do this for a long time until you are confident that you have managed to overcome your internal uncertainty. Believers testify that after reading the prayer, inner peace comes.

The clergy claim that the prayer “Alive in Help” must be learned by heart and fully understood in its entire meaning. If you say the prayer text every time before leaving the house, then you don’t have to be afraid of any external negative influences.

The prayer “Alive in Help” contains enormous power and its effectiveness increases with repeated repetition. This is understandable, because with sincere prayer, the amount of spiritual energy sent to God increases.

A believer can increase the power of prayer when he accurately imagines what he is asking for. Therefore, when turning to God, you need to visualize events that, in your opinion, should happen in the near future.

At the moment when a person prays, he must find his own style of communication with God. You cannot pray formally, automatically repeating a memorized text. Such a prayer is unlikely to be heard by the Almighty. In this prayer, the ease and naturalness of prayer is very important. We must also remember that one must appear before God without a mask, and in no case should one play any role. You need to pray sincerely and be as you are. Only with this approach will the prayer “Alive in Help” be heard.

Psalm 90 - text of prayer in Russian

Since the prayer “Alive in Help” in the original language is very difficult to understand, it is permissible to use the Russian prayer translation.

Its text reads as follows:

“Under the roof of the Lord Almighty, he who lives under the protective veil of the Almighty rests, he says to the Lord, addressing: “My God, the Lord of Heaven and the Great Creator, You are my refuge and my reliable protection, My Lord, in whom I trust with all my soul!” The Lord Almighty will protect you from the snares of fishers, from painful and destructive ulcers, He will cover you with His feathers. You will be completely safe under His wings. His truth is a reliable shield and fence. You will not be afraid of the horrors of the dark night, the arrows of enemies aimed in your direction during the day, you will not be afraid of the infection that walks in the darkness, taking away the power of midday. All evil spirits will fall near you, but will never come close to you. You can only watch from afar with your own eyes and see the retribution. This is because you constantly repeat: “The Lord is my hope and hope.” You have made the Almighty your refuge. And from now on, no harm will happen to you. Trouble will not come near your home. Heavenly Angels appointed by the Lord protect you on your path. If you stumble over a stone on the way, they will carry you in their arms. You will be able to step on an asp and a basilisk without consequences, you will trample on a dragon and a lion in life. He will tell you: “Because he trusts and loves Me, I will protect him and deliver him from all fears; He knew My name, which means there will be no obstacles in his life. As soon as he calls to me with this prayer, I will definitely hear him. For many years I will satisfy his life and give him My salvation.”

It is very important to memorize the text of the prayer. It must be read without hesitation, and at the same time one must deeply understand the meaning of the prayer address.

Psalm 90 - interpretation of the prayer “Alive in the Help of the Most High”

The main idea and essence of Psalm 90, which consists of the prayer “Alive in Help,” is that hope in God for every believer has irresistible power. A person who lives by faith in the Lord and hope for his participation in his life will certainly find a protector and savior in him. This psalm, written a thousand years before the birth of Christ, prophetically points to his future coming.

In the prayer, a red thread runs through the statement that the person to whom God’s help has been sent will be reliably preserved under the protection of God. In addition, God's commandments are given to people to resist demons and other misfortunes.

The prayer focuses on the fact that a person who sincerely believes in God calls the Lord his refuge and protection. And then it is emphasized that the believer hopes in the Lord and trusts in him. The text of this powerful psalm lists, in an allegorical sense, what God will protect from. The believer will always be protected from physical and demonic attack. In addition, he will not succumb to lust or other harmful passions.

The mention that the Lord will cover with His Feathers emphasizes that God loves us. His truth is a strong protective weapon. Therefore, the person who is true before the Lord will definitely be protected.

The prayer also says that the Heavenly Angels appointed by the Lord are always next to the believer and will protect him if necessary. This means that in any difficult life situation a person will receive a sign from above, which will be a hint on how to act correctly.

The prayer mentions man's victory over various animals. This is an allegorical comparison. Thus, the asp means slander, and the basilisk symbolizes human envy in prayer. When it is said about victory over other animals, it means that a person will be able to defeat any evil in life.

The prayer emphasizes that there should be no doubt that those who call upon God and glorify him will certainly be heard. A believer will be freed from any suffering in life, but only if he does not ask for anything unworthy.

Every believer must understand that the help and protection of the Almighty is a reward. Moreover, it can be significantly more than what a person deserves, because the Lord does not adhere to the principle of “everything is according to merit.” That is why even sinful people who do not consider themselves righteous can count on help. But we must remember that at the moment of conversion we must have sincere faith and trust in the Lord. But you also need to understand that sometimes God sends punishments to strengthen a person. Any trials in life are for a person’s benefit and give him invaluable life experience.

In the Synodal translation into modern Russian, the text of the prayer “Psalm 90” is as follows:

Regarding the origin of “Psalm 90,” researchers are of the opinion that its authorship belongs to the prophet David. He wrote it in honor of his deliverance from a three-day pestilence. This prayer is also called the “Song of Praise of David” - under this name it appears in the Greek Psalter.

INTERPRETATION OF THE PRAYER “PSALM 90”

Unfortunately, not everyone understands “Psalm 90” without a full interpretation. If we analyze each verse of the prayer, we get the following:

Psalm 90 Alive in the help of Vyshnyago

Psalm 90 does not have any separate title, but in the Septuagint translation (III-II centuries BC - a collection of translations of sacred texts into Greek) it has the inscription “Song of Praise of David.”

This text has been endowed with protective, protective qualities since ancient times and is used as a prayer in dangerous situations. Moreover, the text of Psalm 90 is often placed on everyday objects to give them the properties of a protective talisman.

Officially, the church does not welcome this, however, in monasteries and small handicraft workshops, items such as belts, bracelets, amulet, etc. are made, containing the text of this particular psalm: embossed on the surface of the item; written on a tiny piece of paper, pasted into a seam, or sewn inside an object.

An example is a belt (belt) made in the Danilovsky stauropegial (i.e., subordinate directly to the Moscow Patriarchate) monastery. Wholesale department: Moscow, Lyusinovskaya street, building 70 in the building of the Danilovsky Trading House, 5th floor, office 8.

There are, however, strong doubts that the belts and accessories are made directly in the monastery, leather is cut, cast from brass and buckles and the monogram of Christ are polished... Most likely, all this is simply brought from Turkey. Well, that's none of our business. Let’s just take it as a fact - there are “official church” belts on sale with the 90th Psalm sewn into them. They supposedly make them right in the center of Moscow and sell them wholesale.

In Orthodoxy, the 90th Psalm is read during the service of the 6th hour (according to the book of hours it corresponds to noon), as well as at a memorial service and funeral service.

One of the most famous interpreters of the text of Psalm 90 is Athanasius the Great (c. 298-373 AD). In his interpretation, he writes about this psalm that persons are introduced in it:

“secretly led by Christ and conquering mental enemies by Him, i.e. principles and powers, rulers of this darkness, spirits of evil and the most hated Satan. And these enemies in this psalm are called differently: fear of the night, an arrow flying in the days, things passing in darkness, shitters and the midday demon, thousands and thousands, asp and basilisk, lion and serpent. And over all these enemies the psalm proclaims God’s victory to man.”

Despite the presence of a considerable number of interpretations, let’s also try to understand the meaning of this text, simultaneously comparing the ancient Church Slavonic version with the modern one, taken, by the way, from the Patriarchate website. There is, of course, an element of arrogance here. Well, so we are careful, quietly...

Text of Psalm 90

1 He who dwells under the shelter of the Most High rests in the shadow of the Almighty, 1 He who lives in the help of the Most High will dwell in the shelter of the Heavenly God,
2 He says to the Lord: “My refuge and my defense, my God in whom I trust!” 2 He said to the Lord: You are my Advocate and my refuge, my God, and I trust in Him.
3 He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, from the destructive plague, 3 For He will deliver me from the snare of the trap, and from the speech of rebellion:
4 He will overshadow you with His feathers, and under His wings you will be safe; shield and fence are His truth. 4 His cloak will cover you, and you will trust under His wing; His truth will surround you with weapons.
5 You will not fear the terrors of the night, nor the arrows that fly by day, 5 Thou shalt not fear from the fear of the night, nor from the arrow of a flying day,
6 The plague that walks in darkness, the plague that destroys at midday. 6 from the things that pass away in darkness, from the debris and the demon of the midday.
7 A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but will not come close to you: 7 Thousands will fall from your country, and darkness will be at your right hand, but it will not come near you:
8 Only you will look with your eyes and see the retribution of the wicked. 8 Look before your eyes, and you will see the reward of sinners.
9 For you have said, “The Lord is my hope”; You have chosen the Most High as your refuge; 9 For You, O Lord, are my hope: You have made the Most High your refuge.
10 No evil will befall you, and no plague will come near your dwelling; 10 No evil will come to you, and no wound will come near your body:
11 For He will command His angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways: 11 As His angel commanded you, keep you in all your ways.
12 They will carry you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone; 12 They will lift you up in their arms, lest you dash your foot against a stone:
13 You will tread on the asp and basilisk; You will trample on the lion and the dragon. 13 Tread on the asp and the basilisk, and cross the lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he loved Me, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he has known My name. 14 Because I have trusted, I will deliver, and I will cover, because I have known My name.
15 He will call to Me, and I will hear him; I am with him in sorrow; I will deliver him and glorify him, 15 He will call to Me, and I will hear him: I am with him in tribulation, I will destroy him, and I will glorify him:
16 I will satisfy him with long days, and show him My salvation.” 16 I will fill him with long days, and show him My salvation.”

Interpretation

Let's compare the first stanzas. It is obvious that the modern version generally conveys the general meaning of the stanza. However, the modern version lacks an important keyword - “help”. In addition, in the old version the more holistic word “Vyshny” is used, rather than “Almighty” (superlative degree), which also seems important.

  • The second stanza in the modern version looks very similar to the ancient version, but it sounds completely different. Some melody disappears. Read both options and you will immediately understand what is going on.
  • The third stanza in the modern version is almost completely distorted. “Yako Toy will deliver me from the snare of the hunter, and from the word of rebellion.” This refers to protection from deception in a broad sense, including verbal deceit, outright lies and mental attack.
  • For some reason, a “disastrous ulcer” was added to the modern version, which in the ancient Church Slavonic version is not discussed at all, and not in a single stanza.
  • Protection against deception in a broad sense in the new version is reduced to a “catcher’s net”, i.e. Here we see an attempt at completely inappropriate specification.

In the fourth stanza of the ancient version, it is said that the Most High will cover the reader with his shoulders (shoulders) and take him under his wing. Not literally, of course. We are talking about protection, but in a somewhat allegorical sense. In the modern version, some strange “feathers” appear. Apparently, the logic of the translator from “ancient to modern” was extremely simple - since there are wings, then why not feathers?

Meaning of the phrase

“His truth will surround you with weapons” - the meaning is that the power of the Most High will manifest itself as a real weapon to protect the reader. According to some sources, the Jewish version of the psalm also names specific weapons - a sword and chain mail (armor). The sword is a weapon of active defense. But the shield indicated in the modern version is, you see, not at all the same as a sword. It is not clear why the shield was mentioned at all if it is not discussed at all either in the Church Slavonic version or (apparently) in the Jewish one.

Fifth stanza - “Do not be afraid from the fear of the night, from the arrow flying in the days.” Night terror - most likely, this refers to an attack, and not just fear or “horrors in the night”, as in the modern version. If we consider the stanza as a whole, it turns out that the reader of the psalm is promised protection from secret and overt attacks. It seems that “arrows flying in the days” are not at all the same as “arrows flying during the day.” An arrow can fly precisely on days, on some days, perhaps in the future.

In this regard, Anton Grigoriev’s blog seemed interesting, where we read:

“While leafing through an ancient astrological lexicon, I suddenly came across an article entitled Daemon Meridianus, or the Midday Demon. The same famous one from Psalm 90... It turned out that this was the name given to the constellation Sagittarius and its bright star (that is, the spectrum of Sagittarius) for its malignity...

It shows murder and loss of life. According to Ptolemy, the Sagittarius stars are of the nature of Mars and Venus. The current ecliptic longitude of the brightest star in this constellation, Gamma Sagittarius, is 7°12′ Aquarius.”

What can they mean?

It seems that the passage “arrows flying in the days” can also mean an unfortunate coincidence of circumstances, a danger to life.

  1. The sixth stanza is the most mysterious, and its modern version does not at all correspond to the semantic meaning of the Church Slavonic text.
  2. Some kind of ulcer has again crept into the modern version, although it is said: “from things that pass away in darkness.” It can be assumed that some dangerous, “dark” objects are meant.
  3. Maybe linings? “Sryascha” is an unpleasant meeting, a sudden misfortune, misfortune, attack, blow. The word may also refer to predictive witchcraft.

“They listen to the voices of the kokosh and the crow, and other birds and foxes, and saying, “You are evil, you are good.”[Teachings against the pagans of the 16th century]

Those. pagans used to guess about the future by analyzing the appearance (meeting, hiding) with one or another bird or beast.

What is the noon demon? Athanasius the Great considers him the demon of laziness. Another author of the 4th century, Eugarius of Pontus, writes:

“The demon of despondency, which is also called “midday” (Ps. 90:6), is the most severe of all demons. He approaches the monk around the fourth hour and besieges him until the eighth hour.”

Metaphors

It would probably be a strong simplification to believe that the midday demon is just laziness or despondency. It is doubtful whether all this is serious enough to merit mention in the psalm. Most likely, the noon demon (remembering the constellation Arrow) should be understood as an unhappy lot (fate) imposed by a negative demonic entity. Those. – an attack with the aim of bringing destructive consequences to life and destiny.

  • The seventh stanza contains some numerical listings, which is very typical for the rules of plotting. “Thousands will fall from your country, and darkness will fall at your right hand, but it will not come near you” - i.e. on one side (the left country) a thousand will fall, and on the right ten thousand.
  • “Right” means on the right, on the right hand. In the modern version, they considered it appropriate to replace the word “darkness” with “ten thousand,” but for some reason they left “at the right hand.” There is no logic at all. In ancient times, a thousand and darkness were large numbers.
  • There was no point in considering anything beyond the concept of darkness. Those. The meaning of the stanza is the prohibition (which is again characteristic of the conspiracy rules) for any enemies to approach the reader of the psalm in any numbers and from any direction.

The eighth stanza contains a reinforcement - “look upon both your eyes, and see the reward of sinners.” Obache is “however” or “however”. In modern interpretation it is replaced by “only”. Those. after the prohibition of the seventh stanza, it is consolidated in the eighth by the statement that the reader himself does not need to do anything else.

How can one interpret

The ninth stanza seems interesting, since in it the Lord and the Most High are not seen as one: “For You, O Lord, are my hope: You have made the Most High your refuge.” It is difficult to imagine how this can be interpreted.

  • At the same time, we must remember that the psalm was written before the New Testament, thus, the word Lord - Christ is not meant.
  • In the Church Slavonic version, the appeal comes from the reader to the Lord, but in the modern version it is not clear who is addressing whom: “For you said: “The Lord is my hope.” And this seems to be a rather fundamental distortion.
  • In the tenth stanza there is again a special prohibition for evil and injury: “Evil will not come to you, and injury will not come near your body.”

The stanza is clear and does not need adaptation at all. Nevertheless, this stanza is also adjusted to the modern style, again including in it a certain notorious ulcer and for some reason replacing “telesi” (organism, body) with a dwelling. At the same time, the prohibition of injury (and in a broader sense, accident, injury) drops out of the text completely.

Promise of an Angel's Help

The eleventh stanza contains a consolidation, as well as a promise of help from Angels: “as His Angel commanded you, keep you in all your ways.” And it is also completely understandable to modern man.

Who is an asp

The thirteenth stanza lists specific entities that cannot harm the reader: “tread on the asp and the basilisk, and cross the lion and the serpent.” Asp is a horned poisonous snake. The basilisk is described in some detail in medieval literature; it is a monster with the body of a toad, the head of a rooster and the tail of a snake.

  1. The lion and the snake are most likely allegories of evil power and dark deceit. Those. it turns out that the asp and basilisk are obvious evil spirits, and the lion and snake are implicit evil spirits.
  2. All together - a listing of dark forces, an allegorical description of demons. In the modern version, for some reason the snake was replaced with a dragon and this completely violated the allegorical nature of the stanza.
  3. In the following stanzas there is the direct speech of the Lord, promising protection (“I will cover him”) not in general, but in case of conversion: “He will call to Me, and I will hear him.”

Modern editing does not seem necessary, since the meaning of the ancient text is quite clear.
So what kind of text is Psalm 90? This is a prayer that is truly protective and truly helpful. But only when reading it in Old Church Slavonic. The psalm is actually used as a protective text in talismans, special objects and incense. And this, of course, is correct, since it is obvious, accessible and effective.

If you show this article to a narrow-minded Orthodox priest, he will probably get a pang. Simply from the impudence of attempts at interpretation.

Is it necessary to translate

There is still one thing left that I would like to clarify. There is no need to “translate” texts from Old Slavonic to modern. Look at the text of this psalm, written in Old Slavonic. You will be a little confused at first. Now turn off your head and turn on your ancestral memory, and you will understand that you can read Old Slavic fluently! The prayer and any text are clear and readable. Tune in and read:

Have you read it? Got it? And what is incomprehensible in the given ancient Slavic text? But there is a difference. The text, even in Old Church Slavonic, differs from those distributed on the Internet. There are subtleties here. Please note.

How to read Psalm 90 in Church Slavonic

  • After posting the article on the site, some attentive visitors nevertheless noticed that the text “Alive in the Help of Vyshnyago” replicated on the Internet (in which the old, ancient Slavic sound is conveyed in modern letters) is also distorted!
  • The differences in sound are small, but they are there. And we have already said that a prayer or conspiracy is not just text, but a sound code. Therefore, it should be read exactly as it has been read for centuries.
  • Following numerous requests from site visitors, we present the correct text of the psalm. This is how it should be read. The accents are highlighted in red, and the differences from the version replicated on the Internet are highlighted:

How to make your own amulet with the text of Psalm 90

This question was asked on the website: “Will the psalm have protective power if I write it on paper or on a belt for my children?”

  • Yes, it will. And probably even greater than that made by someone unknown (Chinese or Turks) and unknown how it was consecrated.
  • You will probably put your whole soul into writing this text. What goes into producing hundreds of such products is unknown.
  • If the Danilovsky Stauropegic Monastery is not prohibited from selling belts with a psalm, and even in bulk, then what arguments can there be for prohibiting making one’s own protective talisman for a child or husband?
  • Print illustrations from this page with the text of the psalm in Church Slavonic.
  • Find a small sheet of good, or even better, unusual paper.
  • Mark the future text with a pencil using thin lines.
  • When everything is ready, wait for the moment when you can start working thoughtfully, without haste. No one should interrupt the writing of the psalm, so it is better to do it at night, when everyone is sleeping.
  • It will be beautiful if the text is written with a thin black ballpoint or gel pen. It would be nice, of course, to use ink, but such writing requires a certain skill. Draw each initial letter carefully and carefully, while thinking about what exactly and for whom you are doing it - a protective talisman.
  • When finished, let the text dry, then trim off the excess paper to make the psalm more compact. Do not throw away the cut pieces, but burn them.
  • Now the finished text can be folded and: sewn into a belt, put in an amulet bag, lining of clothing, etc. To prevent the text from getting wet, you can place it in a small, thick plastic bag sealed on all sides.

P.S. It is better to make such a talisman on the waxing Moon before the Full Moon.

About reading words where “e” is implied

A post came to the questions section that seems not only interesting, but also important.

Olga, Moscow (06/18/2017 20:38:39)

Hello, dear healers! After reading your article about Psalm 91, one question remained: what sound “E” or “E” should be pronounced in the words “mine”, “yours”, “will call”, “will fall”?

***
V.Yu.: The Church Slavonic language (and it is in it that services are conducted in the Orthodox tradition) is a kind of ancient “Esperanto”. Those. a language as if “artificial”, combining the vocabulary of several Slavic countries and regions: Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia.

  • Of course, there are differences between the civil languages (in each country) and the Church Slavonic language.
  • At the same time, these differences deepen over the years, as spoken languages develop - they absorb neologisms, spew out archaisms...
  • The Church Slavonic language, while continuing to become obsolete, does not change. Just like Latin, for example.

In the Church Slavonic language the sound (and letter) “ё” never existed. Therefore, all words where “e” seems to suggest itself should be read only as “e”. Those. - not “will call”, but “will call”.

When should Psalm 90 be read?

This prayer must be said by a person who has come into contact with temptations of the spirit, such as the desire to get rich at the expense of others. Or when lust arises for the wives or husbands of other people. And also at the moment when a person is attacked by devilish entities who want to push a Christian off the righteous path. Then Psalm 90 comes to the rescue, and it must be said until sinful thoughts disappear.

The main thing in reading a prayer is to feel your connection with the Lord, his protection and intercession. Psalm 90 gives all this.

Why do they read it forty times?

In order to eliminate confusion and disorder in thoughts and calm the soul. While a person reads a verse and carefully follows the content, doubts disappear and his faith in the Lord is revived.

How to read the prayer:

Psalm 90 as a talisman:

Psalm 90 is a very powerful amulet. He performs this function not only while reciting poetry, but also in writing. You can write it on a piece of paper or on a piece of cloth and put this text in your clothes. He will protect you from evil people, enemies and simply from manifestations of unfriendliness; will forever protect you from all the negative moments that abound in life.

When they read the prayer:

In Western Christian churches, this prayer is used during evening services. The Eastern Christian Church uses Psalm 90 as part of the 6th hour service and also in funeral services for the dead.

In Orthodox churches, Psalms 26, 50, 90 are usually read in Church Slavonic. The reason is that it is considered impossible to express the meaning and key idea of these prayers if they are translated into another language. But it is still permissible to read Psalm 90 in Russian. The main thing is to sincerely cry out to the Lord.

Prayer idea:

Psalm 90 contains the idea that there is an irresistible force in faith in the Most High. There is an element of prophecy in prayer, this can be found in the reference to the coming of the Savior in the final 16th verse of Psalm 90. It is best to read and memorize the text in Church Slavonic. To deeply understand the meaning of the prayer, you need to get acquainted with a brief summary of the interpretation of each verse.

Interpretation of the prayer:

Its main content is as follows:

  • The Lord gave people the law of divine commandments; a person who fulfills them will always be under the protection of God.
  • A believer turns to the Lord with the words that only he is his hope and protection, only he trusts in him.
  • The Lord will deliver a person from an attack on his physical body or from committing a sin in passion, as well as from a bad word - from slander, which causes confusion in his soul.
  • The Lord will undoubtedly protect a person with the same love with which a hen hides her chicks with her wings. Because His Truth is a shield and a weapon for the preservation of the believer who recognizes this truth.

“You will not fear from the fear of the night, from the arrow that flies during the days.”

A person receiving God's help will not be afraid of robbers who can attack at night, thieves, bandits. He will not be afraid of the thing that will come in darkness, i.e. fornication, adultery. And also he will not be afraid of the midday demon, that is, laziness and carelessness, which corrupt people by the temptations of carnal passions.

A thousand on the left is a temptation to sin, ten thousand on the right is opposition to the godly deeds of man. But they will not harm a person who has deep faith in the Lord.

God will help you to see how your enemies will be punished.

Man completely relied on God with all his mind and heart, which is why the Lord’s protection is so strong.

  1. Since man has made God his refuge, he will not experience any disasters, the house will not be destroyed, and the body will not suffer from illness.
  2. “Like His angel for the story of you, to preserve you in all your ways.” The angels of God protect man on all his paths.
  3. The hands of angels will preserve your soul in times of temptation and trouble.
  4. Asp and basilisk - slander and envy, lion and serpent - cruelty and inhumanity, the Lord will protect the righteous believer from them.
  5. It is not the person who recognizes the existence of God who knows the Name of God, but only the one who fulfills his commandments and his will; only he is worthy of God’s help.

A person who has entrusted himself to the Lord will turn to him in danger, and He will hear him and protect him, and glorify him in eternal life for his Faith.

This verse says that whoever trusts in God, He will give him eternal life, Salvation is Jesus Christ.

Psalm 90 – the best defense:

Psalm 90, created long before the Nativity of Christ, is one of the most popular prayers. Many Orthodox believers have a story that is associated with an amazing deliverance from any danger or misfortune with the help of the prayer “Alive in Help.”

The protective power of this prayer has nothing to do with superstition. You need to know the prayer by heart, it is advisable to read it before leaving home and before going on a long journey.

Examples of Power

Illustrative examples of the power of Psalm 90. There are amazing life stories about how this prayer protects a person. During the First World War, a British regiment fought under the command of Colonel Whittelsey. During the four years that the war lasted, not a single soldier died in this regiment. This happened because all the military men, having memorized the text, regularly repeated the words of the 90th Psalm; they called it “On Defense.”

  • Another case from a later time, which was told by a Soviet Afghan officer. During his conscription into the army, his mother asked him to take a small icon on which was the prayer of Psalm 90 and said that if it was difficult, let him read it three times.
  • He was sent to Afghanistan, where he was a reconnaissance company commander. The usual trips to the rear of the dushmans, ambushes on caravans with weapons, but one day they were ambushed themselves. They were surrounded on all sides.
  • The soldiers were dying, there was almost no ammunition left. He saw that they would not survive. Then he remembered his mother’s words; the small icon always lay in his breast pocket.

He took it out and began to read a prayer. And then a miracle happened: he suddenly felt that it had become very quiet, as if he had been covered with an invisible blanket or cap. He managed to gather the survivors, and they made a breakthrough and escaped the encirclement without losing anyone. After that, he believed in God and the power of prayer, read it before every foray behind enemy lines, fought until the end of the war, and returned home without a single scratch.

Such is the miraculous power of the prayer “Alive in Help” (Psalm 91).

Why do they read this amazing prayer?

Even non-believers will be able to feel all its power and protection.

The fact is that this number is magic. For exactly 40 days of fasting, Jesus himself repeated the lines of this prayer. Therefore, such a number of repetitions will undoubtedly help a person.

How and where to read

Reading requires a special mood that allows the prayer word to reach every corner of human consciousness.

It is important that prayer comes from the depths of the soul. God does not like empty speech. He needs strong faith, a desire for the best.

Icon of Jesus Christ

  1. Before starting psalm reading, it is necessary to repent of sins. This is the Sacrament of Confession, performed in an Orthodox church.
  2. If it is not possible to confess (due to weakness or other valid reasons), then you need to remember your sins, repent, and ask Christ for forgiveness for the sinful acts you have committed.
  3. It is advisable to ask for a blessing to read the Psalm from the priest of the local temple.
  4. Typically, clergy bless parishioners for 40 days of prayer. At first, it is allowed to read the Psalm from the prayer book, but it must be learned by heart.

You need to say a prayer in the temple in front of the Face of Christ or at home in front of the iconostasis. The prayer book must be baptized in Orthodoxy and wear a cross on the body - the main symbol of the Orthodox faith.

Important! The main protective prayer is often read to free the mind from bad, sinful thoughts. Therefore, if a person feels that he is ready to break one of the Commandments of God, then it is urgent to read Living in the Help of the Most High.

This is one of the reasons why you need to know the text by heart, because at any moment you may need support from Heaven.

Prayer Song Rules

Any prayer is a frank dialogue with God. She helps those who, with faith and true repentance, turn to the Almighty, asking Him for protection, peace of mind, and assistance in any difficulties.

Attention! Psalm 90 Alive in the help of the Most High cannot be read periodically, “for show,” otherwise “let it be done to you according to your faith.”

Reading it every day, preferably in the morning or before starting any task, the great meaning of the words of the Psalm, Divine truth, is revealed to a person. The man of prayer realizes that he is not alone in the world, the Heavenly Father, the Great Comforter and Intercessor is always next to him, and all trials are His great providence and an invaluable lesson for the soul.

Jesus Christ - Lord Almighty

Appeal to the Lord in the dialect of Psalm 91:

  • can protect from any troubles and even save from death;
  • cure serious illnesses;
  • protect from witchcraft influence;
  • all obstacles on the path to the cherished goal will be revealed to the one praying, he will be successful in everything, all controversial issues will be resolved.

In addition, the text of the prayer contains a prophecy - the coming of the Savior - the main Protector of the Orthodox Christian - a person who believes in Christ.

The modern world is the other side of spiritual reality, so a person does not always understand the reasons for the troubles that occur. Despite this, the Lord is invisibly present among people. He sends his grace through angels, archangels, saints, and ordinary people.

The meaning of prayer

In many difficult and difficult situations, the Psalm helps, saves from troubles and misfortunes, consoles in grief, guides on the right path, strengthens the spirit, and instills faith in the best.

  • With sincere prayer, the Almighty God hears each prayer book and, like a loving Father, sends help to his children.
  • This is a reward, which is usually greater the more a person deserves it before Him. But God does not follow the principle “you give me - I give you.”
  • It often happens that He helps great sinners who have strong faith and hope in Divine blessings so that the sinful servant of God becomes more and more strengthened in faith.
Jesus Christ the Great Bishop

At the same time, people who believe in Christ and live according to His Commandments do not always receive blessings from Heaven. The Lord sometimes allows attacks from the devilish forces to admonish Christians, to strengthen their spirit, and makes it clear that the sins committed could have been avoided.

When a person understands this, his life path becomes smooth and calm. The Providence of God is present in everything, all tests are given to people according to their strength and for the good! But God’s Providence is not known to anyone in advance, people are not given the opportunity to know it before the allotted time, and there is no point in doing so.

The Lord is a Lover of Mankind, with faith in His help you can not be afraid of danger, because the Power of the Lord is great!

  1. Psalm 90 in Church Slavonic
  2. Psalm 90 in Russian
  3. interpretation of Psalm 90 by biblical scholar and professor A.P. Lopukhina

Psalm 90 in Church Slavonic:

Living in the help of the Most High, he will settle in the shelter of the Heavenly God. Says the Lord: Thou art my Protector and my Refuge, my God, and I trust in Him. For He will deliver you from the snare of the trap, and from rebellious words, His splash will overshadow you, and under His wing you hope: His truth will surround you with weapons. Do not be afraid from the fear of the night, from the arrow that flies during the day, from the thing that passes in darkness, from the cloak, and from the demon of the midday. Thousands will fall from your country, and darkness will fall at your right hand, but it will not come close to you, otherwise you will look at your eyes, and you will see the reward of sinners. For You, O Lord, are my hope, You have made the Most High your refuge. Evil will not come to you, and wound will not approach your body, as His Angel commanded you to keep you in all your ways. They will lift you up in their arms, but not when you dash your foot on a stone, step on an asp and a basilisk, and cross a lion and a serpent. For I have trusted in Me, and I will deliver, and I will cover, and because I have known My name. He will call to Me, and I will hear him: I am with him in sorrow, I will overcome him, and I will glorify him, I will fill him with long days, and I will show him My salvation.

Psalm 90 in Russian:

He who lives with the help of the Most High under the roof of the heavenly God will say to the Lord: “You are my intercessor and my refuge, my God and I trust in Him.” For He will deliver you from the snare of fishers and from rebellious words, He will protect you with His shoulders and you will be safe under His wings, His truth will protect you with a shield. You will not be afraid of the terror of the night, the arrow that flies during the day, the disaster that befalls at night, the disease and the midday demon. A thousand will fall at your side, and ten thousand to your right, but they will not come close to you. Only with your own eyes will you look and see the reward for sinners. For (you said): “You, Lord, are my hope,” you have chosen the Most High as your refuge. No evil will come near you, and no plague will come near your dwelling. For He will command His angels about you - to keep you in all your ways. They will take you in their arms so that you do not dash your foot against a stone. You will tread on the asp and the basilisk, and you will trample the lion and the serpent. “Because he trusted in Me, I will deliver him, I will cover him, for he has known My name. He will call to Me and I will hear him, I am with him in sorrow, I will deliver him and glorify him, I will fill him with long days and show him My salvation.”

Interpretation of Psalm 90 by A.P. Lopukhina:

In Psalm 90, verses 1–4, a righteous man is depicted who lives only by trust and hope in God, which preserves him from numerous enemies who miraculously perish around the righteous man (Ps. 91:7–8).

The Lord miraculously lengthens the life of this righteous man (Ps. 90:16). All these traits are applicable to Hezekiah, who, during the attack of the Assyrians, sought help only from God, who killed 185 thousand enemy troops. Hezekiah's life, as we know, was miraculously extended by 15 years. The psalm must be considered written during the reign of Hezekiah, but by whom, it is unknown, maybe the king himself.

As it was written after God provided help to the pious king, the psalm contains praise of the righteous man, who lives only by faith and hope in God, in which (faith and hope) is the guarantee of salvation from all the minor and major misfortunes of life.

He who lives by faith and hope in God will find in Him a protector who will save him from all the misfortunes and evils of life. Even military attacks by enemies will not bring harm: the enemies will all die. Since you have chosen God as your refuge, He will protect you with His Angels. Every prayer of such a righteous person will be heard by the Lord, who will glorify him and “satisfy him with long days.”

He who lives under the shelter of the Most High rests in the shadow of the Almighty. He says to the Lord: “My refuge and my defense, my God, in whom I trust!” "Living under the shelter of the Most High" - who lives in hope in God, so deep that he seeks intercession only from Him, he "he rests in the shadow of the Almighty" - will enjoy His shelter and protection. The comparison is taken from the custom of ancient Eastern hospitality, when a foreigner, entering a native’s tent, found complete peace and protection in it.

“He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, from the destructive plague; He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will be safe; shield and fence - His truth. You will not be afraid of the terrors in the night, the arrow that flies by day, the plague that stalks in the darkness, the plague that devastates at noon. A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but he will not come near you: you will only look with your eyes and see the retribution of the wicked" - No matter how varied, numerous and great the disasters threatening this righteous man may be, the Lord will deliver him from all of them. He will deliver "from the catcher's net" - in general from any danger caused by cunning; "from the fatal ulcer" - from everything that causes death, harm. The Lord will protect him with the same protective love with which a hen takes her cubs under her wings, where they feel completely safe (“you will be safe under His wings”). This is because “His truth” will be a protective weapon for man. Since God loves the truth, He will protect the one who is true before Him. "Terrors of the Night" – hidden secret attacks; from "arrows flying during the day" – from obvious attacks; from "plague that walks in the darkness" – from actions hidden in the darkness of machinations and intrigues; (random illness); from "the infection that devastates at noon" - from the actions of the southern burning wind, drying out all vegetation. If the righteous were attacked by enemies in unusually large numbers, then the Lord would destroy them "one thousand and ten thousand" - in enormous quantities, but not one of the destructive disasters sent by God to his enemies will affect the righteous.

“No harm will happen to you” – the disaster will not affect you personally, "no plague shall come near your dwelling" - not your property. All this was fulfilled on Hezekiah during the attack of the Assyrians.

“For He will command His angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways: in their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone; you will step on the asp and basilisk; You will trample on the lion and the dragon. Because he loved Me, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he has known My name. He will call to Me, and I will hear him; I am with him in sorrow; I will deliver him and glorify him, I will satisfy him with long days, and I will show him My salvation.”. – The Lord will protect his righteous man with miraculous power. He will send him a guardian angel who, as if in his arms, will carry him through danger. The asp and basilisk (kinds of poisonous snakes, the basilisk is a spectacled snake) will not harm him; neither a lion nor a dragon (probably a boa constrictor or a boa) will harm him, since because the righteous man loves Me, the Lord will always hear him. The Lord will fill him with “length of days” - not only will he not take his life prematurely, but he will miraculously prolong it beyond its natural duration, which is what happened with Hezekiah.

Since we spoke earlier about God’s miraculous protection of the righteous, then by “length of days” we can mean not the natural, ordinary duration of human life, but its miraculous lengthening.
In this psalm, the writer’s speech often changes: either he speaks generally about the righteous person, then he addresses him personally, or he merges with him in prayer before God.

This psalm is the closing psalm of the 6th hour. Having instructed each believer with the previous two psalms of this hour to properly attend the liturgy, here the Church, in the words of this song, promises them the same reward from God that Hezekiah received for his faith in Him. He is also promised the “gift of salvation,” received through the worthy acceptance of Christ into himself in the Eucharist.
