Marat Safin: what kind of deputy he was. Marat Safin: the first Russian tennis player in the International Tennis Hall of Fame What is Marat Safin doing now

Childhood and family of Marat Safin

Marat was born in Moscow. In the family where Marat was born, he could not help but become a tennis player. His mother was one of the best tennis players in the USSR. She, having left the big sport, became a coach at the "Spartak" club. Papa Marat was the director of the same club.

The boy's mother went to work very early after his birth. She took Marat with her. He grew up surrounded by athletes, balls and rackets. It is not surprising that he picked up the racket very early. His mother was often surprised at how easy it was for her son to play tennis at the initial stage of his sports career. The impression was that he knew how to hold a racket in his hands from birth.

Marat Safin and not tennis jokes, humor jokes laugh

Despite the seeming lightness, Marat himself did not want to play tennis, the little boy dreamed of football. However, he continued training, yielding to his mother, who persuaded him not to leave tennis. As soon as the son turned six, his mother became his first coach and took on him in the most serious way.

As a boy, an aspiring athlete was one of top three tennis players of their age throughout the Union. At an early age, he was among those who traveled to America in Cincinnati to attend the tennis academy. Together with him, nine-year-old Anna Kournikova went there. It should be noted that she managed to show excellent results and stayed in the United States. Marat did not manage to prove himself, so he returned to Moscow.

Mom Marat continued to train her son. In the early nineties, a talented boy did not have the opportunity to receive adequate training in dilapidated sports schools. In 1994, his mother and personal trainer managed to secure a special grant for her son from a Swiss bank, which made it possible for Marat to study and train abroad.

Marat went to Valencia, where he trained at the Pancho Alvarina Tennis Academy. The young athlete was only fourteen years old, he did not know Spanish. In Valencia he had to live independent life... He rented an apartment and lived on sixty dollars a month. It was not easy, he learned to be disciplined and passed all the tests.

The beginning of the sports career of Marat Safin

Marat's career began in 1997, when he went to a tournament in Espino. There he was among the tennis players in the second and third hundred of the world rankings. This start ended for Safin with a victory, and a convincing one.

This was followed by the Kremlin Cup, where Marat lost. However, the streak of victories began with this loss. So, starting 1998 at the position of the 204th player in the ranking, he finished it 48th. Many eminent athletes had to get nervous when meeting on the courts with an aspiring star. Per a short time it began to be considered not only the hope of national tennis, but also the tennis hope of the whole world.

Takeoff of Marat Safin's career

By 2000, Marat had become a tennis player who had no equal in the whole world. Despite the fact that his successes were very significant, he did not manage to conquer the Grand Slam tournament.

Marat Safin: Showdown with Bondarchuk's son (archive 2009)

At the American Open, he, to the surprise of the Americans, managed to beat Pete Sampras in his twenties. So he became the first racket in the world. He was predicted a brilliant career, but this was not destined to come true. The athlete was notable for inconsistency. So, at the end of 2000, he was no longer the first racket of the world, giving way to Gustav Kuerten.

In addition to the fact that Marat was distinguished by an unstable psyche, he was simply pursued by injuries that knocked him out of the training process and the performance schedule. Although he was among the leaders of world tennis, Safin still did not reach the first line. But in the Russian national team, this tennis player has always shown himself exclusively as a true captain. The Russian team won the Davis Cup in 2002, and the main contribution to this victory was made by Safin.

Triumphs and failures of tennis player Marat Safin

Ups in a tennis player's career have always been replaced by failures, often due to injuries. So in 2003, after a wrist injury, Marat missed almost the entire year, and in 2004 he already appeared in front of the fans in the same form.

The climax of his career came when Safin was almost twenty-five years old. In Australia, he defeated Roger Federer at the Open and beat Lleyton Hewitt in the final. Safin's tennis was outstanding.

In 2005, he became fiftieth, and in 2006, he was already in one hundred and fourth place. Marat had no more victories in singles. Safin's last season was 2009, according to the results of which the athlete was in the twenty-fourth place in the world ranking.

He ended his career and played his last tennis match on November 11, 2009 in France. At this match, fourteen thousand people said goodbye to the tennis player.

Marat Safin today

Apart from sports and tennis, Marat does not see himself and does not represent himself. After leaving the big sport, he almost immediately began to take part in veteran tournaments and exhibition tournaments.

Since November 2010, the tennis player has become acting. vice president of the RTF. He oversees tennis tournaments in Russia.

Personal life of Marat Safin

Marat's first serious romantic relationship arose in Spain. The girl's name was Sylvia. She attended all his trainings and tournaments, sat in the stands and cheered for her lover.

Marat Safin - farewell ceremony

However, this relationship ended as soon as the tennis player climbed to Olympus. He met with Ekaterina Bestuzheva for almost a year, but all this time they were, one might say, in an open relationship without obligations.

In 2004, Safin began a serious romance. Daria Zhukova became the chosen one. Time passed, and the girl left him. After that, the tennis player was followed by a series of often beginning and quickly ending frivolous novels. Among his passions were Elena Korikova, Alisa Selezneva, Jessica Biel, Nastya Osipova.

It is known that the tennis player has an illegitimate daughter, Eva. With her mother, Valeria, he had a short affair, she found out about pregnancy after she broke up with Marat. The child's father allocates a certain amount every month for the upbringing of Eve, and sees her no more than once every six months.

He ended his career on November 11, 2009, and that day the tennis world lost a lot. One of the brightest and most charismatic players of the XXI century has left the courts forever. Safin could lose several matches in a row, make a lot of mistakes, break rackets, but he was never indifferent to the game. For this, to this day, he remains loved by tennis fans all over the world.

Tennis family

Safin was far from the first famous athlete in his family. Marat's mother Rauza Islanova was a famous Soviet tennis player, and her father Mubin Safin- an experienced tennis functionary. Therefore, it is not surprising that Marat was passionate about tennis since childhood. Until the age of 14, he trained under the supervision of his parents, and in 1994 he went to learn the basics of mastery in Valencia. As we know, soon his own sister followed the path of Marat and his parents - Dinara, who also accomplished a lot on the tennis court. In general, the Safins family is in many ways unique, because Marat and Dinara are the only siblings, each of whom managed to become the first rackets in the world.

Men's tennis leader at 20

It's hard to believe it, but already at a young age for modern tennis, Safin began to defeat the leaders of that time - Pete Sampras, Cedric Pjolin, Magnus Norman and other top ten players. Moreover, the beginning of 2000 was not very successful for the Russian. He was eliminated from several tournaments in the first round, and in general he was not very stable, which, in general, is not surprising for a 20-year-old tennis player. However, Safin did not want to remain in the shadows for several more years and unexpectedly shot in the second half of the season. Marat had a real breakthrough during the North American series of tournaments. Safin won the Masters in Toronto, beating Pete Sampras in a tough fight en route. The next meeting with the most titled tennis player in the world at that time took place in the US Open final.

Wimbledon - semi-finals (2008).
US Open - victory (2000).

Marat emerged victorious from two five-set thrillers in the second and third rounds, and then lost only a set in four meetings. In the final, in the entire game against Sampras, Safin made only 11 unforced mistakes and deservedly won - 6: 4, 6: 3, 6: 3. Unfortunately, the Russian did not manage to finish the year on the first line of the ATP rating. Literally in the last match of the season Gustavo Kuerten won Andre Agassi and in the end he was ahead of Safin by 75 points in the final ranking.

Endless trauma

Safin was mercilessly tormented by injuries throughout almost his entire career. In 2001, the season turned out to be blurry due to a back injury, then in 2003 Marat suffered for a long time from a wrist injury. It would seem that in 2005 things went uphill, but the end of the season was overshadowed by a knee injury. By and large, you can remember only a few seasons when Safin was, if not completely healthy, then at least he could perform at a high level, without thinking about his physical condition. It is curious that, like Rafael Nadal at the last Australian Open, Marat had to fight with bloody calluses at one of the Grand Slam tournaments. During Roland Garros in 2004, Safin bravely played through pain and went through three laps at once, but in the 1/8 finals in four games he lost David Nalbandyan.

Epic match against Roger Federer

He won his second Grand Slam title in Australia in 2005. A season earlier, the Russian, without being seeded, made it to the final and lost in the decisive match Roger Federer... A year later, the rivals met again, but one step before the main match in the tournament. On the other hand, this semi-final will forever remain not only the best match of that tournament, but one of the most exciting fights in the history of the Australian Open. Roger Federer was then not only the reigning champion, but also an almost invulnerable tennis player. The Swiss literally hovered over the court and significantly surpassed all his opponents. All the more valuable and significant is that success of Marat. As usual, the Russian broke his rackets and swore loudly, but he did not do it so often, because in many ways his game was perfect that day. Federer had a matchball in the fourth game, but missed his chance. In the decisive fifth set, the game went up to a difference of two games, and already Marat had a significant advantage, but could not put the squeeze on the Swiss. In the final draw, Federer fought back desperately and, as a result, after having dealt his last blow of the match, he remained lying on the then green Australian hard. Until now, this match is considered one of the best in history and always falls into all kinds of ratings that tennis fans around the world love to compose. A day later in the final I beat Lleyton Hewitt and won his last title of his career. Marat did not win any more ATP tournaments.

Cup fighter

Indeed, winning the Australian Open marked the last singles title in Marat's career, but team successes were yet to come. In 2006, Safin was the leader of the Russian men's team in the Davis Cup. Marat found the strength to play not only in singles, but also in doubles. In the final, his tandem with Dmitry Tursunov brought Russia an important point in the meeting against the Argentines - David Nalbandian and Agustina Calieri... Nalbandian won two of his singles matches, so the fate of the salad bowl was decided in the last match. Safin justified the status of a favorite and won in four games Jose Acasuso... Thus, Marat brought the country a decisive point in the Davis Cup final.

A volcano of emotions

Marat will forever be remembered by tennis fans not only for his bright game, but also for his sometimes defiant, and sometimes even hooligan antics on the court. Suffice it to recall the thriller match against Felix Mantilla at Roland Garros in the same 2004, when Marat lowered his pants during the decisive game, addressing the audience with his fifth point. Thus, he celebrated the victory in an incredibly heated draw. The judge punished the Russian with a penalty point, and the audience just laughed. Safin never stood on ceremony with rackets, breaking them several pieces per game, did not choose expressions, commenting on the rallies literally at their end, but at the same time he always managed to remain a gentleman on the court and respect all his opponents without exception. There have been exceptions, though.

against the leaders of modern tennis:

Rafael Nadal - 0-2.
Novak Djokovic - 2-0.
Stanislas Wawrinka - 1-3.
David Ferrer - 1-1.
Juan Martin del Potro - 0-1.
Tomas Berdych - 2-1.
Andy Murray - 1-0.
Roger Federer - 2-10.

For example, at a tournament in Shanghai in 2009, Marat lost Tomas Berdych and did not shake hands with his opponent. After the meeting, Safin explained his decision by the fact that the Czech just took a medical time-out without having any serious injury.

Last match

He played his final match in the professional round at his favorite tournament in Paris. Safin won three times at the Masters in Bercy, but in 2009 he lost in the second round in three games Juan Martin del Potro... After the game, the Argentinian, along with other participants in the tournament, again went to court to thank Marat for a somewhat quick but unique career.

Of course, Safin cannot compare with many great tennis players in terms of the number of titles, but none of the top players will ever say that he could go to court and easily beat Marat. Safin was not afraid of anyone and therefore, at 20, he beat Pete Sampras without a seed, removed Agassi, Roddick from his path and broke into the Australian Open finals, and already at the end of his career he made his way to the Wimbledon semifinals on the hated grass, when no one could imagine this could not. This was the tennis player. For some, he will remain in history as an athlete who has not fully realized his potential, but for the majority, he will be a player, whose every appearance on the court was an exceptional demonstration of willpower, character, boundless faith in himself and a real tennis holiday.

Winner of two Grand Slam Cups in a single game, twice winner of the Davis Cup as part of the Russian national team, winner of 17 ATP games, Marat Safin is so popular in our country due to his achievements that his name is familiar even to those who are far from tennis.

The beginning of the career of Marat Safin

The son of the head of the sports base "Spartak-Shiryaevo Pole" and one of the best tennis players in the USSR, Rauza Islanova, had every chance to get involved in tennis at a young age. Marat was six years old when he began regular training, and at ten he, along with other young athletes, went to the qualifying stage for admission to the Nick Bollettieri tennis academy. He did not pass this selection, but four years later he gets to the mentor Rafael Mensua at the Valencian Academy of Pancho Alvarina. In Spain, Marat lived and trained for four years.

Professional start of a tennis player

The next year was very busy - he was in the Russian team at the Davis Cup and reached the fourth rounds at the Open Championships in France and the USA. As a result, Safin received the title of the opening of the year and took a place in the rating of the 50 best tennis players according to the ATP.

A bright career in sports

In 1999, young Marat Safin won his first ATP title in Boston and reached the final of the Masters tournament. In 2000, the incredible happens - six ATP titles and a Grand Slam Cup for winning the US Open at once, and Marat has been at the top of the ATP rankings for two weeks. The next year, two more titles are sent to the athlete's achievements box. In 2002, he wins the Masters Series and participates in the national team's Davis Cup victory.

Sunset glory

The following year was unproductive, and 2004 brought him two Masters and a win in a competition in Beijing. In 2005, there was a victory at the Australian Open, and this was the last title for Safin in singles - only a year later he was able to loudly declare himself by winning the Davis Cup with his teammates, and in 2009 he ended his career, losing the final of the Parisian Masters.

Today Marat Safin is the right hand of Shamil Tarpishchev (head Russian Federation tennis) and a deputy State Duma from the Nizhny Novgorod region.

In 1990, as part of a group of young tennis players from Russia (which included Anna Kournikova), Marat went to enter the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, but did not pass the selection and returned.

But in 1994, Rauza Islanova again tried to send Marat to study at the tennis academy, but this time in Valencia. In plain text:

As you know, we have the largest number of Spartak fans in our country. This is a folk team. With all due respect to Dynamo and CSKA Moscow, Spartak was the best football team in the USSR. I myself constantly follow the games and worry.

Romantsev was giving you instructions now.
- Yes, he said to beat forward on partners. I ran less, so the ball should run on the field, not you.

Is this a corporate Spartak style?
- Of course, Spartak has always played the best football in the country.

How old are you at Spartak and why?

Mom grew up on Spartak, on Shiryaevo Pole. Therefore, we have Spartak roots in our blood

Who is your favorite footballer in Spartak in the past and now?

I have several of them: Pisarev, Shalimov, Karpin. May God grant today's footballers, with all due respect to them, to reach the level of play that the Spartak players I listed have demonstrated.

What is the most memorable Spartak match for you?

1996 against Nantes. I remember watching it in Spain, I was 16 years old, and I almost cried with frustration: why did we lose to the French in the Champions League quarterfinals?

And we thought that you would name Yegor Titov's farewell match, where you played under the leadership of Oleg Romantsev for the team of Spartak veterans ...

It was a super match! I am very pleased that Yegor invited me. We have known each other for a long time, we communicate, we have many common acquaintances. One of them is our famous hockey player Ilya Kovalchuk, who is also a big fan of Spartak. In my opinion, all Spartacists are one big family, and our relationship is family

What do you expect from the team in the coming season?

Guys, it's time to win! Stop poking around not in the first places. I would like to see a beautiful game, and even TSESK and Dynamo people come up with different offensive chants about us that we are tired of. Now we have to shout about them. (Smiles.)

What can you say to our fans on the eve of the season?

I am very pleased that my favorite club handed me a season ticket. Before that, no one gave me such gifts. Long before my birth, I dreamed of such a Spartak card, and now I have it! (Smiling.) Therefore, guys, come to the stadium, cheer for your favorite team; Spartak is our family, we must defeat everyone!

And the key to new victories!

It all started with the fact that my mother was born on the Shiryaevo field, - Marat began to remember. - There was the Spartak stadium, where the football club trained in those years. I think everyone knows that it comes about Sokolniki ... I had no one to leave at home with, so my mother often brought me there, one might say, I grew up there. Therefore, Spartak means a lot to me, perhaps even more than to most other fans. I am glad that our club has returned to the KHL. A year and a half ago, I was very upset when I learned that the legendary "Spartak" disappeared, disappeared, could not find funding, which is rather strange for our country ... Thank God that "big people" took it under their wing and decided to revive it. As I heard, the management has big plans - I want everything to work out, and we will help with all our might. Morally, it's a must, but I hope not financially (laughs).

Do you know many hockey players, are there any Spartak players among them?
- My good friend Ilya Kovalchuk, although now he is a player of St. Petersburg SKA. Still, he started his career in the red and white line-up - it means a lot to him. And he, just like me, was terribly upset when the team was gone in the KHL. If we talk about the legendary hockey players who have already completed their professional careers, then these are Alexander Kozhevnikov and Alexander Yakushev. All Spartak players are worthy people, we cannot have others in our club, we are a people's team.

When the son was born, the family already had one child. Ruslan is the name Marat's elder brother, but Marat did not remain the youngest, soon the beloved Alsou was born, and then the youngest brother, Renard.

Marat Safin (Alsou's brother) always wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father, from childhood he listened to his advice, because he knew that such a person would not tell bad things. When he dreamed of helping his father in business as a child, he could not imagine what heights he would be able to achieve.

Brother and sister relationship

Alsou and Marat Safin - brother and sister, which one still has to look for! They are friendly and close. Little Alsou has been keeping up with her older brother since childhood, and he is always ready to help her. This continues now, they are not just brother and sister, but very good friends.

When Alsou left to study in London, she was not afraid that she would be left alone, her brother Marat and his wife were waiting for her there. Throughout her studies, the girl lived with her brother's family, and with Julia, Marat's wife, they became excellent friends.

Marat Safin's education

Nothing is known about the businessman's school and student years, he does not like to remember a long past time, but looks only ahead. As one sage put it - do not look back and do not remember the past, it is no longer there!

It is only known that in 1997 Marat Safin (brother of Alsou) went to study in London with a degree in economics and political science. In 2000 he successfully graduated from his studies and began to "join" his father's business.

Labor activity

Since 2000, Marat Safin, whose biography and career is covered in this review, began to actively develop in the field of business. Few people know, but the man did not stop at the fact that he became one of the three helmsmen of LUKOIL and its subsidiaries, which also included his father Ralif and uncle Rishat.

Marat Ralifovich actively penetrated into foreign business. He controls almost the entire sugar market in Moldova, where he bought out several manufacturing plants. The family's interests also extend to the Baltic states. We propose to consider in more detail the work activity and career achievements of the heir oil industry LUKOIL:

  1. 2000 to 2002 Marat was the executive director of MV Capital Group.
  2. In 2001, Marat Safin (Alsou's brother) acquired practically all the sugar factories of Moldova, became the owner of a controlling stake in the Moldovan-German production "Suduker-Moldova". Marat Ralifovich owned such factories as Dondushensky, Drokievsky, Faleshtsky. At the conclusion of the deal on the acquisition of sugar factories, Marat's sister, Alsu, gave a concert.
  3. MARR has invested in the construction of luxury housing in Moldova.

  5. Since 2002, Marat Safin has become the head of the investment company, which is a family business in Mauritius - MARR.
  6. The modern Valdemara center was built in Riga by the Scandinavians. There is information that in 2006 the Marat family began to own a controlling stake, and the management was entrusted to the young man. In addition, Marat Ralifovich and his uncle Rinat Safin acquired a part of the shares of Saliena Real, which owns huge land plots along the Riga-Jurmala highway.
  7. In September 2007, the young businessman, being the president of MARR Group, became a member of the directors of Bank Zenit. This happened quickly, because only in June of the same year, Marat acquired only 7.8% of the shares of this credit and financial enterprise.
  8. From April 2008 to March 2011 Marat Safin headed the Zenit bank.
  9. From 2001 to the present day, Marat Ralifovich heads the MARR Group, and from 2008 to the present day, he heads the MARR Tek.

Today Marat Ralifovich Safin is almost 40 years old, but by his age he was able to achieve a lot. Of course, some will think that without the help of an influential father, nothing would have happened. But nevertheless, it is worth paying tribute to the young businessman, because he very quickly, actively and in a businesslike manner took up the family business. It is difficult to achieve such heights, business must be conducted with wisdom and special diligence, which is not given to everyone.

Beyond business

Alsu's brother Marat Ralifovich Safin is not only a business man, he, in addition, has a lot of hobbies.

Behind the mask of a strict businessman with iron logic and unbending character, a deeply religious person is hiding. Marat Ralifovich is an adherent of Sufism - one of the most mystical and mysterious religions.

This is one of the currents of Islam, widespread in the territory of Tatarstan. Sufism preaches asceticism, it is an esoteric trend. The adherents of this teaching are not subject to worldly vanity, they are spiritual, balanced, enlightened. Sufism played an important role in the development of art, literature, ethics and aesthetics. The path to spiritual perfection is comprehended by the disciples of Sufism only with the complete obedience of the teacher, following all his instructions.

Of course, you can remain a believer for "show", only externally and in words, but this is not about Marat Safin. A true adherent of the teachings, he agreed to sell the Zenith bank owned by him (the amount is announced at $ 267 million). The businessman made such a decision when his teacher and mentor said that usury is a great sin, it is impossible to engage in it.

Marat Safin has been fond of Sufism for a long time, and there he was able to hold out firmly, to take an important "post". Today, the businessman is known not only by his own name, in Sufi circles he is called nothing other than Sheikh Murad. They say that he has been entrusted with a large and important religious mission (which one is not known exactly).

In Tatarstan, Marat is known no less than his popular sister Alsou. This applies not only to business and origin, but also to the religious worldview.

Marat's state

The Safin family has repeatedly appeared on the lists of the richest in Russia. In the ranking of the largest family business in Russia, the Safins in 2013 figured in 34th place, with a total capital of $ 0.58 billion.

Marat Safin's personal fortune for the same year was $ 0.12 billion.

Marat Safin awards

Marat Ralifovich Safin is not the most public person. He does not like to talk about his life and personal achievements. Business is quiet and measured, does not create a sensation around itself, like many

In 2011, it became known that Marat Safin was raised to the second place in the list of the most successful children of developers in the RealEstate publication.

Marital status of Marat Ralifovich

Marat Safin (brother of Alsou) and his wife Julia met while studying together in London. Young people quickly found mutual language and soon formed a beautiful couple.

They met for eight months, after which Marat offered to go on vacation to Malta, where he made a marriage proposal to Julia. The girl agreed, and now, for almost eighteen years, the couple have been happily married.

According to media reports, Safin's wedding was celebrated for four days. Initially - in Moscow, and then in Bashkiria, in the homeland of Marat, where his grandparents (father's parents) and many other relatives live.

Alsou and Julia immediately became friends. According to the singer - they are best friends, although there is a difference in age.

Julia is the owner of the popular fashion house Icon and also successfully runs her own business. the young woman is not used to sitting at home, striving to improve herself, and not waste her life on eternal trips with her friends to beauty salons and fashion stores.

Marat and Julia have four children. Three are relatives, one was taken from the orphanage by the couple and adopted.

Spending time together

Marat Ralifovich Safin tries to spend as much time as possible with his family, although with his work this is sometimes simply impossible. But once a year, as a responsible and caring family man, he takes a vacation and takes his loved ones to rest, at that time completely alienating himself from business partners and friends. His phone is turned off so that no one can interfere with his time with his family.

In addition, Marat loves to pamper his beloved with romantic evenings. They spend this time only together, taking a break from everything in the world and enjoying each other's company.
