What does a rat mean among the right guys. Why do you dream about rats? Rat - description, appearance and characteristics. What does a rat look like?

Nobody knows when people first became acquainted with rats; this animal always lives next to us.

The rat belongs to mammals, to the order - rodents, suborder - mouse-like. The most common animal on the planet is the rat.

Appearance of the rat, description and characteristics

The body of the rat is oval-shaped and stocky. The body of the animal is from 8 cm to 30 cm, weighing up to 500 g, there are small ones weighing 37 grams.

The eyes and ears are small, the muzzle is sharp and elongated. Is the tail longer than the size of the rat's body, hairless or covered with fine hair? invisible to the human eye (a type of black rat has a tail with a thick coat of fur). There is a species of short-tailed rodents in the world.

A rat's teeth are arranged tightly together in rows and are designed for chewing food. These animals are omnivores; they differ from other predators in the absence of fangs and diastema - this is an area on the gums where there are no teeth.

There are no dental roots, so growth occurs continuously throughout the rat's life. For convenience, they need to constantly grind down their teeth, otherwise she will not be able to close her mouth.

The teeth are strong with hard yellow enamel, which makes it possible to easily chew through concrete, cement and hard various metals.

The rodent's body is covered with a thick, dense coat of guard hairs. The color range is varied, gray with different shades of dark or light, red, orange and even yellow.

These amazing animals have movable toes on their paws, so they easily climb trees and prepare nests in hollows for habitat.

Rats are very active and agile animals, running 17 km a day and jumping up to 1 meter in height. They swim well, are not afraid of water and can catch fish.

Rats often turn their heads in different directions because they have a small viewing angle and see the world around them in gray tones.

Hearing functions perfectly, rats distinguish sounds with a frequency of up to 40 kHz (humans up to 20 kHz).

Life expectancy is from 1 year to 3 years. In laboratory conditions, rats can live 2 times longer.

Difference between rats and mice

Rats and mice are representatives of the same suborder, but they differ significantly in appearance and behavior.

The body of a mouse is small, up to 20 cm, weighing up to 50 grams, rats are twice as large, they are dense and muscular, weighing up to 900 grams.

Pronounced distinctive shapes of the head and eyes, in mice it is triangular and slightly flattened with large eyes, in rats the muzzle is elongated with small eyes.

A strong body and powerful toes allow rats to jump high up to 1 meter; mice cannot do such tricks.

Mice are cowardly animals and are afraid to appear in front of people, but this does not bother rats; they can defend themselves. There are many cases where they attacked a person.

Rats are omnivores, eating meat and plant foods. On the contrary, mice have a greater preference for cereals and seeds.

Habitat of rats and lifestyle

Large rats live all over the world except Antarctica and the polar regions. They live in groups, very rarely living alone.

Most often, groups consist of hundreds of individuals with one male at the head and two to three females. The territory of residence for each group is its own, extending up to 2 thousand square meters.

The diet depends on the habitat. Omnivorous rats eat approximately 25 grams of food per day, but without water it is difficult for them to maintain a daily moisture requirement of up to 35 ml.

Gray rats mainly feed on protein foods of animal origin, small rodents, toads, and chicks.

Black rats prefer food of plant origin: green plants, nuts, fruits, grains.

Rats are wary of pigs, hedgehogs, ferrets, dogs and cats - these are the main land enemies. Among the birds, the most feared and avoided rodents are the hawk, owl, eagle and kite.

Reproduction and lifespan of rats

Rats do not have a mating season; they can breed year-round. But the peak of sexual activity comes in spring and summer. The female mates with different males, pregnancy in rats lasts up to 24 days, and the lactating female carries the cubs for up to 34 days.

Rats prepare nests in advance and cover the bottom with soft grass, cloth, and paper for the birth of offspring. The cubs emerge naked and blind. When dead rat pups are born, the mother devours them; the number at birth can be up to 20.

The male can eat all the offspring if there are non-viable rat pups; he does not take part in caring for them. The female, on the contrary, provides meticulous care, feeds milk, licks the babies and removes debris from the nest.

After 17 days, the little rats open their eyes, and a month later they lead a full-fledged life on their own. Puberty begins after 3-4 months, and they can reproduce 6 months after birth. Life expectancy is up to two years.

Gray rats breed up to 8 times a year, but black rats breed only in the warm season. Today, experts estimate that there are 2 rats per person in the world.

Why are rats dangerous?

Rats are a disaster for all humanity. They gnaw through walls in the basements of houses, sewer pipes, damage electrical mains, and damage crops.

Rats are carriers of more than 20 infectious diseases, such as leptospirosis, plague, salmonellosis, pseudotuberculosis and others. Many are dangerously fatal to human life.

It is difficult to exterminate rats using chemicals because the animal’s body quickly adapts to the poison and develops protective immunity to toxins.

Rats are a pet

Rats are ideal pets. They quickly become tamed to humans and recognize their owner by the face.

Neat and clean animals do not require special care. They will give their owner many funny moments; they are very interesting to watch.

But the owner of a pet rat should not forget that this is a social animal and it is difficult for him to live alone. The rat definitely needs a mate, otherwise a mental disorder may develop.

Type of rat, name and photo

There are about 70 species of rats in the world, most of which are little studied; below are common types of rodents with a brief description and photo of the rat.

The gray rat (pasyuk) is one of the larger species, up to 25 cm long, the tail is not taken into account. Weight from 140 grams to 390 grams, with a wide, elongated muzzle. The gray coat of young animals becomes orange with age. It lives near water, in dense vegetation and digs holes up to 5 meters.

The black rat is smaller in size than the gray rat, with a much smaller muzzle and rounded ears. Body length up to 22 cm, weight about 300 grams. A significant difference between this species of rodent is the tail, which is densely covered with hair and 4-5 times longer than the size of the body.

Lives in Asia, Africa and Europe. It can live for a long time without water, so it lives in dry places. The wool is black with a green tint.

The small rat differs from its fellows in size. Body length up to 15 cm maximum with body weight up to 80 grams. It has a brown coat color, a sharp muzzle and inconspicuous small ears. The tail is as long as the body without any signs of fur. Lives in Southeast Asia.

The long-haired rat is characterized by long hair and high activity. Males grow up to 18 cm, and females up to 16 cm in length. The tail is 4-5 cm smaller in size from the body. Habitat in arid deserts.

The Turkestan rat lives in China, Nepal, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan. The fur is red, the belly is pale yellow, the body length is up to 23 cm. This variety is similar to the gray one, but has a denser body and a wide head in size.

Black-tailed rat or rabbit. It has average dimensions up to 22 cm, weight about 190 grams.

An interesting feature of this type of tail is a tuft of hair at the tip.

The back is gray and brown with visible black hairs.

They live in Australia and New Guinea mainly in eucalyptus forests, dense grass and shrubs. They lead an active lifestyle at night and hide in burrows during the day.

Interesting and educational facts about the life of rats

In India there is a Karni Mata temple where rats are revered, cared for and protected. If the rules for caring for a sacred animal and killing it are violated, this person is obliged to bring a golden figurine in the form of a rat to the temple.

In some American states, it is illegal to hit a rat with a baseball bat and can result in a $1,000 fine.

In Asian and African countries, rats are considered a worthy delicacy for a festive dinner. Rat meat is considered a delicacy.

A gray rat eats up to 12 kg of various cereal products per year. Experts have calculated that every year about 6 kg of one farmer’s harvest is spent on feeding one rat.

What kind of person can be called a rat? What does it mean?

Rat Man. The one who rats everyone out. Or looks like a rat. Or he takes the most tasty treat for himself and doesn’t share. Or he doesn’t tell any secret. The rat, in general, is the one who wants everything and doesn’t want to share it with anyone, and it’s best to have it all so that others don’t notice

A rat is a person who stole something from his own people. And that person who snitches on someone on his own. Usually such terms are used in prisons by the prisoners themselves. In principle, you can already find them in our society

I wouldn’t call anyone that, it’s disgusting for me to even say that word. But for that matter, when they say that such and such a person is a rat, I understand that this is worse than ever. But once I heard a mother call her child a little rat... And not out of malice, but just casually.

To call a person this way, he needs to work hard on himself. Overall, this type is low to the point of being truly disgusting. It costs him nothing to steal something, to pity someone in order to snatch something for himself. Moreover, this immoral type loves to spread dirty gossip, he is terribly cowardly, although he tries with all his might, when those around him reproach him for something, to prove the opposite. For the sake of some benefit, he is ready to climb into others (in one place) without soap and will never just do anything for anyone. At the same time, he is very lazy, resourceful and greedy. At the slightest pressure, for the sake of himself, his beloved, he will surrender anyone.

This is the person who does everything from behind the scenes, from behind.

A person who takes everything for himself, who doesn’t care about anyone, who will never help anyone, but will steal from others on occasion.

The definition of a rat comes from the zones.

This is when one of the prisoners steals from his own people. For this, punishment was imposed, up to and including banishment. Gradually, this expression spread to the outside world, but did not lose its meaning.

At one time, while working as a mechanic, I witnessed the punishment of a rat caught stealing from cabinets in a change house - they took him gently by the arms and legs, and carried him to a toilet like a toilet, and with feeling plunged him into the waste, head down, so that he had to dive ...and the next day he quietly wrote a statement on his own...

People can be called rats on two counts.

    1. He does everything behind his back, is cunning, speaks badly about a person behind his back, but says only good words to his face.
    2. Just a good person, but he looks like a rat in appearance.
  • I think a rat is a person who speaks behind your eyes, cannot say it to your face, gossips, says nasty things about you to others. In childhood, those who did not share chocolate were called rats, at school - the correct answer, but now, it seems that this is a person who has little good to say or do.

Rats clairvoyants
Moreover, the rat is able to establish cause-and-effect relationships between phenomena and foresee many events. The following facts speak to this.

In Stalingrad, before the bombing, there was an exodus of rats from the city.
Sailors who went through the war said that rats escaped not only from sinking ships, but also from those ships that were expecting a torpedo attack the next day.

It is already a known fact that rats leave testing grounds and weapons testing sites, including nuclear weapons, a day or two before the events begin.
An interesting story happened at the beginning of the last century in France. One of the food and clothing markets closed and had to move to a new location. The day before, all the market rats, as if obeying some command, left their place and moved... to where the market had found a new home! People were ironic: can a rat really know how to read? After all, the relocation of the market was known only from newspapers... .

Rats and people behave differently in a maze
Psychologists conducted the following study. They selected a group of people and placed them in a maze similar to a rat maze, only in the center of the maze there was not a piece of cheese, but 100 dollars. At the training stage, both the person and the rat quickly found the desired corridor with the bait. Differences appeared when the bait was removed. After two or three fruitless visits to this corridor, the rat stopped running there and began exploring new ones. The man stubbornly continued to visit the once money nook. Apparently, it is very difficult for him to abandon the myths he himself created...

Rats are kind creatures
Experiment of the Institute of Higher Nervous Activity of the USSR Academy of Sciences. A rat from its native pack was placed in a separate enclosure, all other individuals of which were kept behind a glass partition. And so, when the chosen rat was given food, all other members of the community were shocked. The discharge became stronger as the subject ate the next portion. If the rat did not stop eating, the electric current became fatal for the rest. And the unfortunate woman clearly saw all this through the glass. As a result, more than 90% of the rats preferred their own death by starvation rather than the death of their relatives. The nameless gray heroes went into rat-like oblivion, finally trying to cling as closely as possible to the glass fence in order to somehow be closer to their own. The rest made choices in favor of their own lives.

Rat color and character
When experiments were carried out on the domestication of foxes at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the SB RAS in Novosibirsk, it turned out that if you select from generation to generation animals that are loyal to humans, they will eventually acquire “dog characteristics.” They will have long floppy ears, shortened tails and spots on their skin. In the 30th generation of rats, ordinary gray pasyuki, white spots of different sizes appeared - from the “tie” to the white belly. In the most affectionate ones, the spots grew so large that only the head, neck and strip of fur along the ridge remained dark. When moving in the opposite direction, towards aggressiveness, the pasyuki began to acquire a charcoal color. The foxes also turned black.

Rats don't like the noise of fans
Amusing experiments on the perception of music by rats were conducted by researchers from the University of Texas. They offered newborn rat pups to listen to different categories of sounds every day for two months. One group of baby rats listened only to the music of Mozart, another - only modern atonal music, and finally, the third group of newborns was doomed to listen to the noise of a fan every day.

After such a two-month musical “education,” the rat pups were placed in a special cage with keys on the floor. By standing on different keys, the little rats could call up any musical program: Mozart, atonal music or noise. Which of these sounds did the rats prefer? It turned out that the majority preferred Mozart, a few - modern music, but none of the rats wanted to listen to the fan.

As you can see, “musical tastes” exist even in rats. And the ballad about the piper-pied piper from Hamelin, apparently, is not so far from the truth. This is confirmed by a story that recently occurred in the English city of Southport, in the county of Lancashire. The city's temple of arts - the Flower Hall - was struck by a disaster in the form of incredibly proliferating rats. None of the traditional measures - rat traps, cats, pesticides - yielded results. But a concert of modern rock music took place in the hall. The guys' electro-acoustic sound amplification equipment was excellent, and they "produced", as it should be for modern rock ensembles, quite a decent level of decibels. The modern public, accustomed to everything, endured it, but the rats... After this concert, the tailed music lovers were blown away like the wind. Their “musical tastes” appeared to be more conservative. But, as they say, every cloud has a silver lining.

Olympics for rats
The so-called “rat tournaments” have been held for more than 30 years, and in 2001 the First Olympics for rats took place. The program included five disciplines: rock climbing, balancing act, long jump, weight lifting and running. For victory in each discipline, participants were awarded a “gold” “Olympic” medal, a small bag of oats and a two-week reprieve from participation in the experiments.

In recent years it has become a profitable business. The rat movement now has a flag, an anthem and faculty teams. In the future, there will be broadcasts on cable television and the ability to place bets.

Cartoon rat made the French fall in love with rodents
According to a popular myth, there is always a live rat within 20 feet (6 m) of any resident of London or Paris. The release of Pixar's Ratatouille, which tells the story of a Parisian rat with a talent for cooking, led to a 40% increase in the purchase of rats as pets.

True stories

Fossil rat
A fossilized rat skull the size of a car has been discovered. This creature lived about four million years ago, weighed about a ton and ate mainly plant foods. She was so large that she spent most of her life half-submerged in water, like a hippopotamus, to relieve the pressure of her own weight.

A rat almost killed a python
A python named Tails eats lunch once a month, and each time he is given a live rat. Appetite depends on the temperature in the terrarium. During the last feeding, it was unusually cold in the environmental center. The python fell into hibernation, and then it was attacked by a hungry rat, which was given the fate of live food. The 3-meter snake almost died. “The rat heavily gnawed one side of the python and inflicted about 4 wounds, that is, it ate right down to the meat,” says Vadim Krivosheev, head of the Museum of Natural History of the Ulyanovsk Environmental Foundation.

The python was injected with novocaine, the wounds were cleaned, and the damaged tissue was sewn up with strong silk threads. After the operation, the boa constrictor was prescribed a course of intensive therapy. Every day, veterinarians treat wounds with a special ointment and give antibiotic injections. Apparently, the tiger python is recovering, but it still has no appetite. After the stress he suffered, he stopped responding to rats.

Rats got drunk at the expense of Indian policemen
Police in the state of Bihar (India) seized products from a company illegally selling beer and cognac and placed them in a cellar for storage. However, rats, which are known to plague everyone in India without exception, managed to sneak into the police storage facility and gnaw through containers containing confiscated alcoholic beverages.

Now, police say, drunken rodents are walking around the city streets and biting passers-by on the legs. “We are already fed up with these rats and have no idea why they are suddenly drawn to alcohol,” senior police officer Kundan Krishnan said indignantly. The indignation of law enforcement officers is understandable, since rodents practically deprive them of their income: seized products are usually sold at auction.

Hierarchy in rats
In order to study their ability to swim, Didier Desor, a scientist from the laboratory of behavioral biology at the University of Nancy, placed six rats in a cage from which there was only one exit - into the pool. To get to the food trough, you had to swim across the pool. It soon became clear that not all rats go out to get food. The roles were distributed as follows: two exploited swimmers, two exploiters, one independent swimmer and one scapegoat.

Two exploited sailed for food. When they returned to the cage, the two exploiters beat them and dunked their heads in water until they released their prey. Only after feeding their masters did the two slaves receive their own portion. The exploiters never swam across the pool to get enough; it was enough for them to beat the swimmers.

The independent swimmer was strong enough and did not submit to the exploiters. And finally, the scapegoat could neither swim nor intimidate the exploited, he simply collected the crumbs scattered during the fights. The same group structure - two exploited, two exploiters, an independent swimmer and a scapegoat - was repeated during the experiment in twenty cages.

To better understand the mechanism of hierarchy, Didier Desor placed six exploiters in one cell. They fought all night. By morning, the roles were distributed according to the usual pattern: two exploiters, two exploited, an independent swimmer and a scapegoat. An experiment with six exploited, six independent, and six scapegoats produced the same result.

Scientists from Nancy learned another result of these experiments by opening the skulls of the subjects and analyzing the state of their brains. The most damaging effects of stress are not on the scapegoats or the exploited, but on the exploiters. They were afraid that the slaves would no longer obey them.

Tree rats - neotomes, passionate money changers

Tree rats - neotomes - live in North America. They have a reputation as thieves and... money changers. Rats, as you know, take everything edible to their nest. Neotoma is also not without a passion for hoarding, but prefers to collect shiny objects rather than food supplies. There are known cases of rats stealing watches, dentures from a glass, and even coins from a wallet. In addition, there is a lot of evidence when these rats brought something else in “exchange” in place of stolen objects.

There is a known case when a team of miners was left without a box of nuts, having discovered pebbles instead. And a rat stole a shiny metal shell from one miner and brought a gold nugget in its place. The miner began feeding his generous guest and one day tracked her down. It turned out that the rat's hole was located next to a gold-bearing vein.
The rat uses everything stolen or “exchanged” to decorate the interior of the hole. The rat's home is multi-room: bedroom, storage room and toilet! The neotoma's nest is an impregnable fortress: the entrance is decorated with prickly cacti. You can't get through a door like that!

The mouse set the house on fire
Luciano Mares, 81, saw a rodent mouse running through his house and, fearing the damage it could cause, decided to urgently get rid of it. He caught her and threw her alive into the fire. But the mouse managed to escape from there and, with its back blazing, ran through the window into the house, setting everything on fire in its path. The house burned down.

A similar incident occurred with a resident of India. Ranveer Singh decided to put the animal caught in the mousetrap to death by burning. He tied a rope soaked in kerosene to its tail and set the end on fire. The mouse, distraught with fear, managed to escape from the trap and began to rush around the house with a burning torch on its tail. As a result, all that was left of the man’s home were firebrands.

The rat in the cabin cost the airline half a million dollars
A rat that climbed into the cabin of a Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 747 cost the airline $545,000. Passengers who discovered a rat in the cabin caused panic, and the plane, which was supposed to fly from Cairo to Jeddah, was returned straight from the runway. Another plane was urgently called from Saudi Arabia, which finally delivered the passengers to their destination eight hours late. At the same time, 28 people refused to fly with Saudi Airlines after the incident with the rat. As a result, the Boeing was able to fly from Cairo only the next day. During the time spent catching the rat, the plane carrying 500 passengers had to make three flights.

Would-be animal defenders
Love for animals sometimes takes tragicomic forms. Thus, in early July 2006, activists of the Animal Liberation Front stole over 10 thousand rats, mice and hamsters from the Stolbovaya laboratory animal nursery. Animal rights activists released all the rodents into the wild in the Chekhov district of the Moscow region, which greatly frightened the residents of nearby villages. Summer residents, alarmed by the invasion of rodents, asked for help from the police, firefighters, and employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and poisoned the aliens themselves with whatever they could. However, experts are confident that it makes no sense to poison released animals. “Laboratory animals, once in the wild, become ready food for birds of prey and dogs. This is especially true for white mice, devoid of the instinct of self-preservation. The maximum lifespan of these rodents in the conditions of the Moscow region is no more than a month. So it was in vain that they released them - will die,” said MSU biologists.

0 Today we will talk about a word that has found its way into the everyday speech of young people from criminal slang, this is Rat, which means you can read it a little later.
However, before continuing, I would like to advise you to look at a couple of new articles on the topic of prison slang. For example, who is Kent, who is called Mokroschelka, what does Forshmak mean, what is Gruz, etc.
So, let's continue, what does Rat mean? This word comes from the name of a small, unpleasant rodent that causes a lot of problems by raiding people's food supplies. No one can sleep peacefully if they know that there is a cunning rat in the house. It’s the same in life, some people began to be compared to these repulsive four-legged “friends”.

Synonym for rat: steal, steal, steal, steal, fuck.

In prison, such kleptomaniacs are very cruelly beaten off and called Rat, which is a very bad reputation for life. Therefore, practically no one even thinks steal from their fellow sufferers. In addition, in this way people can set each other up, for example, Tolyan takes one cigarette from his sidekick Vadik’s pack, knowing full well that he would not refuse this request. However, Vadik got into trouble, he got wound up, and began to claim that in his pack of cigarettes he had a stash of $1,000 for a black child. In this way, a person is purposefully made rat.

Rat- means to hide something, hide something

Example:

Guys, maybe I should stop stealing tools from the garage, various little things are constantly disappearing, it’s not nice after all.

If you are going to rat, then you need to do it so that no one notices.

There are several rules in life that should not be broken, the most important of which are not to knock or rat.

Some inquisitive individuals are interested in what does it mean to rat in the cops?

Rat in the cops- this is when a player settles in a secluded place and waits for opponents to purposefully kill them, while he is not interested in completing a mission to rescue hostages, or planting a bomb

Actually, there is a lot in common between a camper and a rat, although there are a number of differences.
For example, if a ST defends a bomb place, then he is just a camper and cannot be considered a rat.

If T is protecting hostages, then he is also considered camper, not a rat.

However, if the ST has settled down in a dark corner and is not going to rescue the hostages, then he is without any doubt a Rat.

If T doesn’t even think about rushing or planting a bomb, but is hiding, waiting for the enemy, then he is clearly rat.

Usually camping exclusively pros, and the rats are noobs, although there are exceptions. Although in the game they don’t like either one or the other, but there is no escape from them, this is not who we are, this is how life is.
