Hypestorm: As follows from the press release, Space Rangers: Quest is "a classic sci-fi saga in both form and content for you personally, written easily and with humor." Is this a continuation of the series? Side project? Psychological experiment?
Denis Maltsev: Rather, it is a side project aimed specifically at fans of text quests from the original game. Emulators of text quests from "Rangers" have existed for a long time, including on mobile devices... We decided to make a full-fledged game out of this.
HS: What other activities are there besides text questing?
DM: Despite the fact that passing text quests takes most of the game time and is the main type of gameplay, this is not an end in itself. The player will have to re-explore the galaxy, communicate with its inhabitants, participate in epic star battles (also text-based!).
HS: I remember that both the fans of the series "Space Rangers" and the press in every way praised the text quests, it was the most popular feature. But I never thought that you could make an independent game out of this.
DM: Initially, SNK wanted to make a quest player. However, we discussed this idea with them and came to the conclusion that it would be much more interesting to make a rogue-like-adventure in the world of "KR" with the main content in the form of text quests.
HS: We know those! The development team positions itself as "indie", but at the same time cooperates with a major Russian publisher. What is still more in this game - "indifference" or the producer's expression of will and flair?
DM: Half and half. The game embodies the wishes of both the developer and the publisher. Moreover, no one limited the developer's creative freedom. For example, I did not expect the presence of a boevka. But the Council of People's Commissars insisted that it should be introduced, and they were not mistaken.
HS: Since the genre of the game is rogue-like, and there is a fighting game, then for sure the player can die.
DM: Of course, you can lose. Otherwise it is not interesting.

DM: It is possible to load the save.

DM: The world is created anew every time, like all quests and random events.

DM: Everyone who liked text quests and everyone who feels that they have left a part of themselves in the Space Rangers universe, I hope they will enjoy our game. Those who like leisurely stellar adventure games will love it too.
