DIY wall-mounted wooden key holder, decoupage. The charm of the decor is the decoupage of the key holder. Where to get a blank key holder for decoupage

Upon entering the house, we throw the key on the bedside table, table, or hang it on a nail or hook in the hallway. But, of course, it’s better if your keys have their own, special place, which will attract many admiring glances and enthusiastic reviews from guests. We suggest you decorate the key holder: MK with a photo and a detailed description of decoupage will help you with this.

DIY decoupage of a key holder in the shape of a house

Key holders can be very different, for example, a house is one of the most popular shapes for this decorative item.

We will show you how to decorate such a key holder to match the walls of an ancient castle:

Materials for decoupage:

  • blank for a key holder (make it yourself or purchase it in specialized stores)
  • acrylic paints, acrylic varnish
  • PVA glue
  • matte alkyd varnish
  • napkin or card for decoupage
  • two-component craquelure
  • artistic bitumen
  • brushes, sponge, sandpaper

Decoupage instructions

1. First of all, you need to unscrew the hooks and rub the workpiece with sandpaper so that there are no uneven spots left, then coat the workpiece with acrylic varnish on both sides.

2. Using a sponge, lightly touch the surface with white acrylic paint. You can use a primer. Cover the painted surface with acrylic varnish and dry it.

3. After the workpiece has dried, decorate it with a napkin with the selected pattern. To do this, you need to peel off the napkin and coat the surface with PVA glue or acrylic varnish. When the layer dries a little, place the napkin face down on the master, cover it with baking paper and iron it (don’t forget to turn off the steam mode). Then the paper is carefully removed. Excess pieces of napkin are removed using sandpaper.

4. Using acrylic paint, level the background. To do this, mix three colors: ocher, yellow medium, white. Then we coat the workpiece with varnish again.

5. Coat the upper part of the workpiece (where the background is) with craquelure composition according to the instructions. It will help create cracks and give the appearance of antiquity. We also paint and cover the reverse side with the composition.

If you want to get large, thick cracks, then the layer of craquelure varnish should be larger; for a fine mesh, a thin layer of the composition is needed.

6. Take artistic bitumen and rub the cracks with a sponge, and remove excess bitumen using any vegetable oil (sunflower, olive, linseed, etc.).

7. We also use a sponge with bitumen to go over the edges of the workpiece and the hooks, after which we screw them back.

8. Dry the key holder and coat it with matte alkyd varnish.

.

And our key holder is ready!

DIY decoupage of a key holder with a door

We bring to your attention another master class on how to decoupage a key holder with your own hands, only this time it will be a key holder With door.

Materials for decoupage:

  • key holder blank with a door and a removable part in it
  • napkin or card for decoupage (pictures can be anything)
  • acrylic paints
  • waterproof white paint “Snowball”
  • rosewood stain
  • water based varnish
  • artistic bitumen
  • brush
  • sandpaper
  • sponge
  • brush

Decoupage instructions

1. Sand the workpiece with sandpaper and take the removable part from the door.

We cover this part with stain.

2. The outside of the part is painted with white paint and left until completely dry.

3. Take a napkin, peel it off and tear it along the contour of the design, making uneven edges.

4. Glue the napkin. To do this, place it on the workpiece and, using a wide brush, apply varnish on top, trying to avoid wrinkles on the napkin.

5. We wait for the varnish layer to dry and rub the workpiece with the finest sandpaper along the edges - this way we will remove excess pieces of the napkin and soften the edges.

6. Using a sponge and white paint, we slightly adjust the drawing: tint, finish drawing.

7. Apply rosewood stain to the rest of the workpiece - this will give it a patina of age. Then we clean the surface and edges - this will help reveal the bottom layer and give the effect of aging.

9. Decorate the rest of the surface using the dry brush method. To do this you need either a hard or old dry brush. It is dipped in white paint, after which the excess paint is smeared on the paper, and what remains on the brush is smeared on the surface of the key holder in a small amount, lightening it a little.

10. Decorate the inside of the door with a gold bow applied using a stencil.

11. Using bitumen and a brush, shade the picture on the door.

12. Attach the hooks and door handle to the key holder.

13. Using the “spray” technique we take the final steps of decoration. To do this, you need a brush, which we dip in acrylic paint of a suitable tone. When spraying it on the key holder, you need to make sure that only small droplets fall on it.

14. Finally, we cover the key holder with three layers of varnish.

So, we have another key holder in decoupage style.

Such beautiful things will always take a special place in your home, and besides, there is no shame in giving them to loved ones, for example, for a housewarming or any other holiday.

Introduction.

Decoupage appeared in Russia quite recently and quickly gained its followers. It has become a popular hobby for many needlewomen. However, for children this is not just a hobby, but a very useful activity. Decoupage will prepare a preschooler's hands for writing and work, teaching him to work with a brush, scissors, paper and glue, and will develop tactile skills by introducing him to working with various materials and objects, such as wood, glass, various types of paper and plastic. The decoupage technique develops concentration, attention, and perseverance while cutting out designs and motifs, introducing him to ornaments, patterns and developing color perception and imagination. No less important here is the development of logical thinking in the process of thinking about the composition, the sequence of actions: cut, paste, varnish.
Few parents know that the development of fine motor skills of the fingers and hands is a strong stimulus for the development of the central nervous system and speech. Children with developed motor skills are better prepared for school and learn to write more easily. After all, the writing technique requires coordinated work of the small muscles of the hand and the entire arm, as well as well-developed perception and voluntary attention. Lack of preparation for writing, insufficient development of fine motor skills and visual perception can be the cause of a negative attitude towards learning and school in general. During decoupage classes, the child learns to use scissors, hold a brush, and, accordingly, a pen.
At what age can you start decoupaging? At the very young! After all, this technique has different levels of complexity from a person who cannot draw at all to an experienced professional. The materials used in the process of making crafts are mainly water-based (acrylic paints, varnish, PVA glue), odorless and non-toxic, which makes it possible to use them when working with children. The child will be able to do decoupage, decorate blanks for boxes, boxes, trays, plastic and glass objects. All this can be decorated with colorful napkin motifs. The beauty created by the hands of a child will be perfectly protected by varnish. Everyone will be able to create their own unique “masterpiece”.
The guys and I in the group have been doing decoupage since they were 3-4 years old. We started with the simplest things (jars, boards). Now that they are already 6-7 years old, they can do a lot at a fairly high level of independence, teach their parents, and help beginning children. My task at this stage is to prepare the necessary materials, help a little with the idea, creating the composition of the future craft, and selecting a napkin. People are happy to buy our crafts at charity events; they take prizes at various competitions and exhibitions. Our latest hobby is making key holders. They will be discussed further.
Materials:
- a piece of plywood (thickness 10 cm), sawn in the shape of a pike;
- acrylic paints and varnish;
- napkin with a pattern;
- flat brush No. 12 (bristles);
- thin brush No. 3-4 (squirrel, pony);
- PVA glue, universal polymer glue;
- sponge or sponge for coloring;
- scissors;
- stained glass paints;
- plastic eyes;
- hooks.

Manufacturing process:

I continue the series of master classes on making key holders for the home. Today we will talk about key holders in the form of a fairytale fish. If you are interested, you can get acquainted with other master classes on my blog.
So, for work you will need a blank cut from plywood. Here we need a template and male help. The pupils' fathers and a carpenter in kindergarten help us.

The sawn workpiece must be sanded along the edges; the surface of the wood must be smooth.

After this, you can start painting the product. We will use white acrylic paint and a painting sponge. I make sponges for children myself. We need any smooth stick, for example from old brushes, and a piece of sponge, which we glue to our stick handle with any glue. The sponge allows you to avoid getting your hands dirty with paint and is more convenient to use than a regular sponge.
When working with children, you can remind them of the safety rules when working with glue, paint, and scissors.

While our product is drying (you can dry it with a hair dryer), we select a napkin. For fish it is better to choose a small pattern. I have a three-layer napkin with a floral print.

Turn the napkin over, apply the pike blank and trace with a pencil along the contour of the product.

Cut it out.

Since the napkin has three layers, we remove excess layers. We only need the top layer with the pattern.

Let's start gluing the napkin fragment. We coat the surface of our workpiece with PVA glue. It is better to dilute it with water in a ratio of 1 to 1, for better impregnation of the napkin.

Place our napkin fragment on top.

If it doesn't turn out very smooth, that's okay. During the gluing process, the napkin stretches a lot, we fold the excess along the edges, and then after drying we can sand it with sandpaper.
So, apply a brush with glue over the design, pressing the napkin, smoothing out the folds, driving out the bubbles from under it. We have a rather large piece of napkin, so it’s not always possible to get rid of all the folds. You shouldn't be upset about this either. After drying, the napkin will partially smooth out. In any case, small folds are a feature of decoupage and give it some kind of charm. Skill comes with time, you will master various gluing techniques - there are a lot of them and everyone chooses the one that is closer to him.

This is my result:

After drying, we begin painting the edges of our pike. We take red paint and paint the edge of the workpiece with a brush, then go over it with a semi-dry sponge with paint, creating a beautiful blurry effect.

After drying, coat with acrylic varnish (2-3 layers with intermediate drying).

Let's start attaching the hooks to our key holder.
For this stage we need:
- drill;
- drills of various diameters;
- sandpaper;
- sharpening machine;
- files;
- pliers;
- safety glasses.

Be careful when working with a drill and sharpening machine. Take care of your hands and do not keep them near rotating parts of tools. We wear safety glasses to prevent small particles from getting into your eyes when working.
Insert a thin drill into the chuck.

Drill holes where the hooks will be attached.

We begin to screw the hooks to our key holder into the resulting holes. This operation can be performed even by hand. The hooks screw in quite easily. At the final stage, you can use pliers to better strengthen them.

Result:

Don't forget to drill a hole to attach the key holder to the wall. To do this, take a drill of a larger diameter.

As a result of working on the product, paint and varnish inevitably end up on the underside of the key holder and stain it. We give our product a “marketable” appearance. We grind the back surface on a sharpening machine or with sandpaper, making it smooth and beautiful. Using files, we can remove excess where the machine does not reach, for example, sand between the fins.

We proceed to the final finishing of the product. We glue the eye to our pike. We draw a pattern of flowers on a napkin using stained glass paints with glitter.

Close view:

Draw eyelashes with a black outline. Our pike is a beauty.

After the stained glass has dried, only the shine remains. It looks very nice.

This is what it looks like in the hallway with keys:

And another beautiful pike.

Here I have highlighted the fins and tail - fragments of a napkin of a different design were pasted on. The details were also drawn using stained glass paints with glitter (on the body) and without glitter on the fins and tail. The outline of the pike is painted with bronze gouache. You can use not only acrylic paints, but also gouache paints. But you need to know one subtlety. If you apply varnish to gouache with a brush, it will bleed and ruin your work. Therefore, here we use either varnish from a spray can or regular hairspray, fixing the gouache with it. Then you can apply the varnish on top using the usual brush method.
I present the works of my children: fabulous key-keeper fish.

There are words that become for us for a certain period of time our slogan, our life credo. But there are eternal words that turn over whole layers of principles, rules, visions in our hearts, changing our view of familiar things. It is very logical to always have such words before your eyes, reminding yourself of the most important things. At one time, the verses from the 13th chapter of the first letter to the Corinthians of the Apostle Paul made a great impression on me and brought simply a revolutionary revelation about true love...

And now I want to invite you to decoupage the key holder with these words. When entering and exiting your home, these words will always be before your eyes, giving your heart the right vector.

To decoupage the key holder, we will need:

Acrylic primer
Acrylic lacquer
Acrylic paints
Water stain
PVA glue
Napkins, decoupage card
Blank
Water-based decorative impregnation for wood
Brushes
Scissors
Screwdriver
Sandpaper
Patina
Scotch
Pressure roller
Stencils
File folders
Iron
Accessories

Decoupage of the key holder

1. First, we just need to purchase a blank of the desired shape, desired style, etc.

2. Carefully inspect and sand.

3. In my blank, I cover with tape the place where the decoupage card will be, and the sides that I want to decorate with a napkin motif.

4. Treat the drawer with stain.

5. We do the same with the entire workpiece except for the sealed area.

6. After complete drying, we sand the convex areas of the workpiece with sandpaper.

7. We get a slight effect of wear, wear and vintage.

8. We do the same with the box.

9. Select a suitable pattern.

10. And we opt for scrolls and seals.

11. You can now remove the masking tape.

12. And prime the central area under the card and the sides.

13. We first paste over the already frost-covered areas.

14. We will also decorate the reverse side, so we need to remove the hinges and prime them with white acrylic paint.

15. Soak the decoupage card, cut and adjusted to the size of our “window” in the key holder.

16. Cover the surface to be decorated with decoupage glue.

17. I even put decoupage cards on a file, although they are much stronger than napkins, but it’s more convenient for me to work.

18. Using a ruler, we center our map.

19. And press it through the file, expelling air bubbles from under it (it’s convenient to do this with a rubber construction roller).

20. Cover with varnish and dry.

21. Selecting monograms for the sides...

22. ... and the back of the key holder.

23. To work with a napkin motif, you need to separate two white layers and use a colorful one.

24. Using the file method we glue the sides of the key holder. Place the napkin with the pattern down on the file.

25. Fill with water.

26. Use a fan brush to smooth out wrinkles and bubbles.

27. Remove excess water by sharply lifting the file with the napkin motif above the tray.

28. Try it on the surface to be decorated.

29. Press down.

30. Remove the file.

31. Coat with decoupage glue.

32. Using mother-of-pearl enamel and a porous hard sponge, we will fill the space around the card. It must first be painted over the ground with bronze paint.

33. You only need to pick up a little bit of enamel on the sponge - it should be almost dry.

34. We get the effect of cracks and sweat.

35. You can also use bronze paint over the mother-of-pearl enamel again to tone down the mother-of-pearl.

36. It turns out not so bright and more aged.

37. Using a stencil, we will decorate the drawer of our key holder.

38. Create a stencil sponge: tightly wrap a piece of sponge to a branch.

39. Apply bronze paint through a stencil.

40. Make another stencil design inside the drawer.

41. Let’s move on to the back side of our product: grease the surface under the napkin with PVA glue.

42. Apply the top layer of napkin.

43. Cover with parchment paper.

44. Iron on low setting.

45. Varnish (preferably with aerosol varnish, but the napkin will still wrinkle when wet).

46. We tint the sides and back with diluted brown acrylic, since the white background is very sticky.

47. We varnish the entire product.

48. Do this several times with good drying in between.

49/50/51/52. We attach the fittings to your taste and discretion and you can already admire your masterpiece.

Probably everyone will agree that it is not easy to do without a key holder. As a rule, there are a lot of keys in the house - the key to the house, to the garage, to the car, and very often they are lost if there is no specially designated place in the house to store them. Of course, we can get by with a couple of nails or hooks driven into the wall, but it will look much more aesthetically pleasing if we use a key holder for these purposes. A key holder is often a wooden craft with hooks on which keys are attached, its appearance harmonizing with the interior of your hallway. There are various ways to decorate a key holder, but we will decorate it in the traditional way for wooden crafts - we will do decoupage.

DIY housekeeper

In the master class we will show an example of how to make a house-shaped key holder and decorate it, mastering the decoupage technique for beginners.

So, for work we need:

  • a blank for decoupage, which is made simply from two pieces of chipboard, thin boards and several hooks; in our case, three hooks are used;
  • acrylic varnish;
  • acrylic paint;
  • varnish that gives a 3D effect;
  • contour for decoupage;
  • PVA glue;
  • card for decoupage;
  • craquelure varnish.

Decoupage of a key holder: master class

Have you prepared everything you need? Then let's get to work!

1. Let's prepare a blank for the key holder. Wash it, degrease it and let it dry completely.

2. Now let’s start painting the workpiece with acrylic paint. We use a regular kitchen sponge for this.

3. Let the workpiece dry completely, then apply another layer of acrylic paint. We paint everything except the hooks, although if they accidentally get dirty, they can be easily wiped off.

4. As decoration we use a card for decoupage on a trophy hunting theme. Of course, it is better to use a card with a theme that matches the interior of your hallway, but if you are new to the decoupage technique, we recommend using a special card sold in handicraft stores; if you already have such experience, you can use a regular napkin with a design you like.

5. Applying a decoupage napkin to the workpiece, mark its contours.

6. Now, using a pencil and ruler, draw the lines outlined as contours.

7. Now let’s cut the napkin to the size of the workpiece.

8. We make a test fitting of the card to the blank, make sure that it is cut out correctly.

9. Then prepare a plate with warm water and soak the card well.

10. While the card is soaking, cover the workpiece with a thin layer of PVA glue.

11. Place the card on the workpiece and glue it evenly.

12. Now let’s decide on the color of the roof of the blank house. Let's choose acrylic paint of golden color.

13. Now let's cover the roof with one coat of paint.

14. We will also paint the strip on which the hooks for the keys are located.

15. After letting the workpiece dry for two hours, apply a generous layer of craquelure varnish on top.

16. It is important to apply the craquelure using the same movements in the same direction. This will help us highlight the texture of the wood.

17. Let’s let our almost finished key holder dry for three hours, then select a paint color that contrasts with the first layer.

18. Now let’s coat the workpiece with regular acrylic varnish in one layer and let it dry.

19. Cover the dried workpiece with another layer of acrylic varnish.

20. Now we’ll finally apply a layer of dark brown paint and large, voluminous cracks will begin to form before our eyes. Let's leave the roof to dry, and at this time we'll start applying golden paint to the individual elements of the decoupage card design that we liked, the brightest and most significant ones.

    Decoupage of a key holder: important points and tips

    Master classes:

Important! First you need to select materials, and the key detail of decoupage is a paper napkin, from which the decor is made.

Types of napkins for decoupage of a key holder

To get a beautiful drawing, you need to know some features. Wipes you can use:

Types of napkins Characteristics Three-layer napkins 33 x 33 cm They can be unusually beautiful - such products can be found in a supermarket. There are packs with the same motifs, and they can also come in 4 different colors. The advantage of such napkins is their low cost. The disadvantage is the limited choice of decor, and it is sometimes impossible to consider different design options in one pack. Paper handkerchiefs (four-layer napkins) They come in sizes 21 x 21 cm, there are also many of them on sale, the price is low. Here the pros and cons are the same as in the previous version. Products from a specialized store - napkins for decoupage They consist of three layers. Available in sizes 33 x 33 or 25 x 25 cm. They are sold individually and cost much more than those found in retail stores. One of the advantages is a large selection of options for decoration.

Advice! Very beautiful options can be brought from abroad - there is a large selection of beautiful napkins. However, you can also use single-layer napkins in your work if you come across some nice ones. Just don't have to separate them.

Decoupage of a key holder: important points and tips

It is important that clear patterns are made on a monochromatic background that do not intersect with each other. Napkins with small patterns or stripes are good for processing and decoupaging the internal surfaces or sides of boxes. If you decide to glue the canvas completely, then you need to choose beautiful drawings and collages.

Advice! If the printed main design is clearly visible on the second layer, then it can be used for gluing to the back side of the product.

First master class: making a stylish key holder in a rustic style

In order to create a key holder, you need to stock up on the following materials:

    plywood blank, which is cut into the required shape and processed for a key holder;

    tropical designs on a paper napkin;

    acrylic paint white and black;

    glossy acrylic-based adhesive;

    foam sponge;

    PVA glue;

  1. two containers for glue and paint;

    two brushes (one fan-shaped, the other synthetic);

    oilcloth so as not to stain the table;

    fine sandpaper.

To create a unique look for your key holder, you will need to follow several sequential steps.

Preparatory stage

We cover the table with oilcloth and place the workpiece on top of it. Dip a foam sponge into white paint and blot the base. This method of painting will help to obtain a bubbly, uneven surface. In hard-to-reach places, use a brush.

Important! After finishing the decorating process, you need to let the paint dry for about an hour.

Then we cover the workpiece with a second layer of paint. Now you need to leave it to dry for 2 hours. Inspect the product after drying, and if necessary, paint it again. To stick a napkin, you need to take PVA and dilute it with water in equal proportions.

Decoration process

    Taking a napkin, decide which part of it you will need. Cut off what you don't need.

    Iron the selected fragment and divide it into layers. To work, you only need one top layer with a pattern.

    Having spread the napkin on the workpiece in an even layer, we begin to glue it using a fan-shaped brush.

    We go from the middle to the edges of the picture. We bend it along the edges and tear off unnecessary parts.

    The glue needs to be passed along the edges of the workpiece and placed on a jar or glass to dry.

Varnishing the key holder

After the glue has dried, you need to treat the surface with varnish. Using a decoupage brush, varnish the surface of the entire workpiece.

Advice! After the first layer has completely dried, another one is applied, then the next one. A total of 5-6 layers of varnish are applied. It is important to dry the coating thoroughly, after which the edges of the workpiece are covered with black paint.

Once completely dry, run your hand over the surface. If you feel any unevenness, sand it down with sandpaper and coat it with varnish again.

Second master class: key holder in Provence style (photo)

We prepare materials and tools for work:

    blank for decoupage of a key holder;

    PVA, white paint and a set of acrylic paints;

    foam sponge;

  1. sandpaper;

    flat brushes;

    napkins and iron;

    furniture hooks and screwdriver.

Infrared heated floor Caleo - types of thermal film and installation features (15 photos)

Preparatory work

Sand the workpiece with sandpaper. Cover the entire surface with PVA and dry. Using a sponge, cover the entire workpiece with white paint.

Decorating the key holder

    Cover the surface with glue and leave to dry for 40 minutes.

    We place the selected fragment of the napkin on the workpiece and iron it with a hot iron through the paper.

    We glue the corners in the usual way, as described above. We leave everything to dry.

    We glue the roof separately and paint over the voids between it and the base. On the reverse side we cover the key holder with stain.

Advice! For ease of mounting on the wall, you need to screw the hanger with self-tapping screws. The front side of the product is varnished and hooks are attached for hanging keys.

Third master class: more complex decoration of the key holder with decoupage

In this way, you can decorate not only the key holder, but also a small hanger for the dacha, where it will be convenient to store various small items.

Before starting work, prepare materials and tools:

    a board for the base of the key holder;

    fine sandpaper;

    glue: PVA, “Moment”, “Titan”;

    brushes and rubber spatula;

    acrylic paint;

    texture paste;

    a napkin with a chosen motif;

    strips from a plastic bottle;

    decorative sand.

Preparation

The base on which decoupage will be performed should be sanded well, eliminating all roughness. Then cover the front side with PVA. After the glue has dried, the surface is covered with white acrylic paint.

Creating decor

Using the file method, we transfer the napkin to the base: lay the design face down on the file and moisten it with water using a spray bottle. Then we turn the file over onto the board. After carefully removing the film, you need to glue the design and after drying, varnish it.

Using a spatula and paste, prepare a free space on the base for finishing.

Important! To create a three-dimensional design, you need to cut strips from a plastic bottle and decoupage them. We cut out a design of butterflies from plastic and glue them onto the panel using “Moment”.

We coat the edges of the key holder with Titan glue, then sprinkle with sand. Attach the hooks and get a finished key holder.

Fourth master class: decoupage of a key holder in an old style

To create this option, you should prepare a drawing of a bird on a sakura branch. From tools and materials you will need:

    a wooden base on which the design will be applied;

    napkin with a picture of a bird;

    fine-grain sandpaper;

    acrylic paints and varnish;

    artistic bitumen;

    We prepare the surface. To do this, we sand both sides of the workpiece; it is important to get rid of all irregularities and nicks.

    After this, both sides are varnished.

    We cut out the necessary designs from a napkin and lay them out on the base.

    We paint the key holder twice with white paint and varnish it.

Second phase

    We lay out the prepared drawing face down on plastic wrap. Apply water and a little varnish on top.

    Turn the film over onto the base and smooth it out, then carefully remove the film. This way all the drawings are transferred.

    Give the workpiece time to dry.

    Varnish the dry surface.

    Using a swab or sponge, we paint the spaces between the drawings, creating the main background. We apply a pattern to the places where the hooks will be located using a stamp.

Advice! Using a stencil and a mint shade of paint, the key holder can be decorated with monograms.

Let everything dry well. After this, we varnish the workpiece and repeat the work on the reverse side. We treat the ribs with artistic bitumen and varnish the key holder again. Hooks can be painted with antique bronze paint.

Fifth master class: French decoupage for a key holder (video)

To create this version of the key holder you will need the following blanks:

    beautiful napkins for decoupage, choose the option to suit your taste;

    basis for creating a house-shaped wooden key holder;

    primer, paint and varnish;

    fine grain sandpaper;

    foam sponge;

    window cleaning liquid is suitable for degreasing;

    thin brush and brown paint;

    scissors, plastic plate and napkins;

    hooks for making key fasteners.

Preparing the base

    All nicks on the wooden base are sanded.
